The park has great facilities and a range of different animals to look at. Come face to face with some of the world’s most endangered animals. Perfect place for kids with lots for them to do. Get up close to the animals in the large walkthroughs. Really lovely wildlife park where you can walk through the penguin, wallaby & lemur enclosures.

This is most famous for a real-life drama: the execution of Charles I, which took place here in 1649 to the ‘dismal, universal groan’ of the crowd. On 30th January 1649, Charles I passed beneath the Rubens ceiling that he had commissioned to glorify the monarchy, and onto a scaffold where he was beheaded. Sir Peter Paul Rubens breath-taking canvases have survived flooding, fire and war. It is nothing short of a miracle that you can still enjoy them in their original setting, just as Kings, Queens and Courtiers have done for the past 400 years. 

Very interesting to explore the remains of this historic site in a picturesque location. 2000 years of history. A great visit combined with the 5500-year-old chambered cairn 100 yards away. The broch itself is wonderful and all right on the coast line in a dramatic setting next to a slab sandstone beach. The coastal scenery around it is also stunning.

This has become established as national centre for contemporary craft and has built up one of the best collections outside of London, including ceramics, wood, metal, glass, textiles and furniture. A lovely place to visit with a wide variety of interesting and well displayed exhibits.

Take a much-needed break from modern day and glide gently along the historic Canal for a two hour trip on 72ft narrow boat. The boat ride was leisurely and stress free and plenty of refreshments available on board and within the venue. Excellent value for a relaxed two-hour trip along a very scenic historic waterway, on a heritage canal.

The broch is absolutely gorgeous. Easily accessible from the main road at the top of the hill and there is a car park. As ruin, there is not much left, it’s impressive that a structure of over 2,000 years is still there. Climb to the top and check out the amazing construction of the broch. Nice view and some imagination you visualise how it must have been. Extremely well kept, excellent information boards and brilliant view. 

Discover one of Scotland’s most enigmatic castles. It was built in the late 1200s or early 1300s and is situated on a triangular spur of land, surrounded by steep drops to an artificial loch. An almost unknown place, hidden in the countryside, but stunning and absolutely well kept. There is a woodland walk to the right of the castle which loops anti-clockwise around the loch through some fields and takes you back onto the road just down from the entrance gate. The nature walk around the castle grounds is wonderful and offers lots of great views of the castle from different angles.

The origins of the hall date to the 11th century. There are over 110 rooms at this Hall, though not all are accessible. This does not take away from the fascinating history, architecture and art. This is an English country house with centuries of history standing on the river. If you like the Tudor and Elizabethan era and its houses, this is the perfect place to visit.  The gardens are delightful. This is one of the best places to visit and days out, that will leave you and your family with wonderful memories.

Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere at this ruined medieval abbey. See original paint work and hear the wonderful echoes of your voices in the medieval chapter house. The 12th century abbey was home to a community of Cistercian monks for 400 years. Beautiful abbey in a lovely location. A great ruin to have a look around and imagine what it would have been like back then.

There is curious historical background to this monument. This is one of the most prominent landmarks in the city. Extremely beautiful surroundings and the monument is definitely worth a visit to plenty to do nearby and transport is very easy to get to and from the city centre.

This beach is full of lovely stones. The surroundings are beautiful, with the iconic white cliffs and coastguard's cottages. A very peaceful place to relax. Take in the sea views, and go for a walk along the river or cliff top. The view of the cliffs are fantastic. An overall great place for walks. Parking is available.

This medieval building looks more like a fortress than a palace. Thick stone walls, turrets, small windows, narrow entrance door, all speak to the defensive nature of the builder. This used to be the residence of an Earl named Patrick. The architecture is very interesting and gives you a feeling of how the people lived here back in the 1600s. what an atmospheric ruin. Really interesting with lots to see and explore.

The history and vision of the building is amazing. Beautiful old church and cemetery. Lots of history to be learned here. A significant part of the 14th century building is still standing and well worth a visit while the surrounding area is of great historical interest with a bronze age burial site on the adjacent  Hill. This was actually founded in the 1100s and it was Scottish base of operations for the order’s work, which involved sheltering and protecting pilgrims visiting the Holy Land.

The castle is a two-storey ruined tower house. Great views over the bay. The castle now has a viewing platform to allow you to climb to the top. Once there the view is stunning over the bay. The castle was built in the 14th century. It's very peaceful and there are educational plaques along the way. They have installed a metal stairway and landing inside of the castle, which allows visitors to have a better view of the incredible landscape around the castle.

 A really interesting museum, step back in time to when cash was king. A birthplace of financial history. The eighteenth-century building houses a collection of early home savings boxes, coins and bank notes from many parts of the world. Wonderful little museum which ticks the right boxes by making the most of the limited space and still getting across the vital history.

A pristine beach and plenty of parking. This place is stunning, blue water, golden sand and massive waves. It is a private beach but absolutely fantastic place to visit. The beach is sandy and clean. Kids will love it. Horse riding facility is also available.

Get up close to awesome sharks at aquarium and see real scuba divers in daily feed shows in the aqua theatre. With one of the best collections of marine life, sharks, tropical and freshwater fish, spiders, and snakes.

This is an attractive sandy beach with shallow dunes and decent water quality. This beach is next to the caravan site and you can park and walk down the path to the beach.

What a spot. There is a fantastic lighthouse and stunning, gorgeous, magnificent coastal scenery. This is a great place to stay, the lighthouse was very cosy and in a stunning area. The walks around the light house are great. The cliffs are spectacular, and the coastal walks are very easy.    Panoramic views and a nice coastal path to follow on top of the cliffs.  The lighthouse is fenced off and signposted as private.  Breath-taking scenery overlooking the ocean. Images of waves crashing against the rocks will stay for a long time. Great place to see nature. Easy, accessible car park. 

Built by Romans two thousand years ago to keep their neighbours out. The remaining part of the wall is a testament of time. It has been standing there. Beautiful place, filled with history. A place you could learn more about history of London. Plenty of photo opportunities in which you can explore at your own pace. 

Discover 900 years history. A really interesting place with many things to find and discover. The museum is fascinating as it spans a vast period in the Priory's history, well worth looking at. Very informative priory. Allows you to see how the charitable trust keeps up the good work on site. There are plenty of relics to see on site that have been found here. The walled gardens about a 10-minute walk from the priory is beautiful and one of the biggest walled gardens. The walled gardens are a great experience and well maintained.

Great visit to a hill fort at least 4,000 years old, the location and constructions are amazing and gives you time to reflect what has happened here through the years. The area is in history with the remains of several ancient settlements and forts. 

The Palace was once one of the largest and most important buildings in all of medieval London. This was a 12th-century palace which served as the London townhouse of the bishops. Today visitors can see the impressive architecture of the remaining walls of the Great Hall, including a magnificent rose window. Free entry.

Fabulous Neolithic site with many standing stones. Amazing engineering work of beautiful Neolithic People. They have really stood the test of time, nearly 5000 years, attracting people from all over the world. When you touch it, it takes you back in time, to the Neolithic Period. A beautiful and amazing structure. The car parking is free and there is no charge to go around the actual stones.

A prehistoric circular stone towers found only in Scotland. It was probably constructed around 300 BC and stands 13m tall. Unbelievable archaeological and architectural treasure. A mysterious round stone tower on the island and this is one of the best-preserved prehistoric structures in Europe. This is a great place to visit.

This is a clean and picturesque sandy beach. The seaside is a small seaside resort boasting lovely beaches, great coastal walks. It is very close to the train station, and plenty of parking along the top of the hill. Popular with tourists during the summer but rarely empty during the day all year round.

This is a glorious sandy beach that attracts legions of sandcastle. The pure golden sand goes for miles and the sand banks along the side are fun to try run up. Gorgeous, peaceful and well maintained. A very beautiful place. London's most famous work of Sculpture. It was first sculpture in the world to be cast in aluminium and is set on a bronze fountain. The statue is a well-loved symbol of London. Many beautiful buildings and architecture all around. The real London feels here. Great iconic place, close to so many other places, but very crowded at all times.  

One of the best art museums in Europe. If you like industrial / urban architecture you will love this building. Great place to see modern art in all its various forms. The art instillation is huge. Huge numbers of visitors come into the church, mainly drawn by the story of the heroism of the people at the time of the plague. This is a 39-mile-long footpath walk designed to be enjoyed by all. Two villages devasted by plague in the 17th century. There are higher mountains, steeper tracks and greater walking challenges in other parts of Britain, but nowhere is the walking more lovely, relaxing, accessible. The tunnels which run beneath the city centre. The tunnels were built in the 1842. Learn about the history of the tunnel. Tour takes a couple of hours. Be prepared for a cool dark enclosed space with a low space with uneven floors. You meet at an office and walk down the canal side while the guide talks about wartime local history. One volunteer tour guide talked mostly about wartime, then the other talked about the tunnel's original purpose. Both guides knew their subjects well. You then get a hard hat and torch to use in the tunnel. Enjoy the use of sound / theatrics to help supplement stories by the guides. Fascinating history that you'd never imagine. You have to book in advance. Hard hats and torches are provided.

Take a spectacular cable car ride into the village in the sky. Each of the 12 cars are permanently attached to the cable by huge metal bolts. The cable itself is 1,136 metres long. From bottom to top, you travel 169 metres upwards. fantastic views of the valley during the trip and from the heights. Stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Excellent place to spend a day with kids.Gorgeous area where you can eat, drink, have an ice cream, let the children play in the grounds, admire the views of the park, climb the tower to the top and visit the green parks.

This is an area of the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. It has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Northern Ireland. This Abbey is Scotland’s best -preserved group of monastic buildings. In the early 1100s, the Augustinian cannon settled here. A well-themed museum that gives you an amazing piece of history of salt manufacturing industry.  Very interesting insight into the industry and so surprised to learn how recently it ceased operation. Interesting look into the British industrial past and how salt was processed from brine. It is a factual experience detailing salt production.  Lots of interactive displays to keep children interested with an interesting story.

The Spa Lodges are simply incredible, quite spacious, perfect for families. Excellent place to stay. The lodge cabin is amazing and warm and peaceful. There is a lovely view of the hill in the background. Good location, close to the reservoir and for exploring the local area. It is worth the money what you pay and this place if you want a romantic or even a short brake weekend. The Park is a Victorian pleasure ground. Beautiful, large park with so much to do and explore. Kids will love the Victorian dinosaurs, play areas and the boating lake. The lake is beautiful and you can even hire some pedals.  Adults will appreciate the space and variety of landscapes. A park full of nature. There are lots of entrances into the park. Great place to take the kids. There is so much to do here.

The garden is situated within the grounds of the former Roman walls. This one of Neolithic chambered cairns.  A stone circle and passage grave dating back 4,000 years. A torch is given to visitors, which should be used. This archaeological site is a great site to visit. The construction of the tomb is amazing when you think of how long ago it was made. Free to visit.

One of Britain’s best stately homes. There are lovely grounds to walk around with some sculptures in the gardens. The house itself has many rooms that can be accessed across three floors and the basement. The rooms and corridors are impressive and worth seeing. A great place to visit. Full of history. This is a rich archaeological heritage. Enjoy the stunning view of the island from the broches. View artefacts from the Iron Age on display in the visitor centre on site. The Iron Age village began between 500 BC to 200 BC. Beautiful place for visitors. The broch and the settlement are very well preserved, and you really get a feel for the place and the people that lived there. It would be helpful to read up about the history and what you can see, as the signposts only reveal basic information, and so many details and insights can be seen if you know what you're looking at, and what to look out for. This place is unique because you can explore the ruins of an Iron-Age stone fort. The tower in the centre still stands about 3 and a half metres tall. Wonderful Neolithic village.

This is a small but very interesting museum with a human size hamster wheel saved from St. Mary's (Twisted Tower) Church, which was used to lift all the materials up through the tower as it was being built. Others displays give you a feel for the history of the town. 

Explore the high-vaulted halls and gloomy prison of this powerful medieval stronghold. The medieval barrel vault in the lower hall is breath-taking and the views are terrific. The main tower was built in the 1370s. Enjoy the countryside stunning views from the hilltop castle. Great place, historic values and nice scenery. The castle has interesting history and architecture. There's a visitor centre at the bottom of the castle which has a small exhibition where you can read and prepare before going up the hill.

A really nice quaint beach town with a lovely, long stone beach. This is a shingle beach, with some great views. Nice for a family day out and a picnic. There are a lot of reasonably priced guesthouses/hotels to stay at nearby. The beach has parking spaces, cafés and public toilets.

 If anyone is interested in how people were living in the old days, using the peat to build and heat, it will be worth checking out. As soon as you enter the house you can smell the peat from hearth. Amazing that this sort of house has been in use for maybe 1000 years and was still occupied in the 1960's.  This traditional fully furnished thatched house once sheltered a family and its animal under the same roof. Great place to visit to learn about the history of the people who lived there. An amazing and very popular tourist attraction.

Beautiful naturally sheltered sandy beach, excellent for swimming. At low tide there is a vast area for visitors to explore. Great beach always popular in the summer, toilet facilities available.

Find out about life during the Roman military occupation and visit the period house, with rooms from the 17th century to the 1920’s. The museum's collection of artefacts are well displayed with well written descriptions. Most were found from the site of a major Roman fort. There is an amazing collection of Roman tomb stones which had been used in the later construction of the city walls and consequently re-discovered. These Roman tombstones really bring the people they were dedicated to back to life with little snippets of their lives written in stone. 

Scenic activity park with a choice of harness and aqua rides. Expect to get very wet with the aqua and black hole. It's a real thrill and you get a different experience with each ride - facing forwards on the harness ride is a much different experience than facing backwards. The hydro ride is pure fun.

Step back in time and experience Georgian life, discover the work of an English landscape and portrait painter, see Egyptian mummies and explore archaeological, industrial, natural and military history. The natural history exhibit has so much to explore.

This Arts and Crafts style detached house was designed and built by one man, with the assistance of his wife and a bricklayer. It was amazing that one man with minimal help could plan, build and furnish this marvellous house. The House is Grade II listed and the interior features paintings, handmade furniture, copperwork and other craft objects made. 

A horse racing course and leisure venue. This park is premier karting venue, boasting two circuits complemented by excellent hospitality and conferencing facilities. 

A beautiful priory ruin with no charge to visit. Brilliant 12th century history. The information boards give enough detail for you to imagine life in the priory. Well preserved. This is a beautiful place of historical significance. The building is great for architectural photography and well worth a visit of you are interested in architecture or history. Fascinating interior full of laid stone and graves. 

A well-built Iron Age underground chamber supported on stone pillars. The long, curved passage and the oval chamber are finely built, with four stone pillars supporting the roofs. Discover the Neolithic architecture and a larger settlement of stone roundhouses. 

A beautiful place to visit. You could easily spend a whole day there. Plants and trees from all over the world. Amazing garden, beautiful landscape, a great family day out. Unique collection of trees some of which are 150 years old. Beautiful gardens, always something new to see no matter what time of year. The gardens for natural lovers.

A great local museum. The building and its history is fascinating. Tall Ships, a wonderful part of this City’s old and historic part. Good educational visit for families with lots of interesting exbibits and history on local waterways. Some lovely events throughout the year including Santa boat trips near Christmas and school trips if you book ahead. A particularly interesting museum, not just inside but there are exhibits surrounding the old harbour or dockland.  One can certainly gain an insight into this old harbour by studying old machinery and docking facilities.

Located in a beautiful setting next to the river and the weirs which managed the water flow to the factory.  The building itself is a metal frame similar to the original skyscraper. The tower has so much history. The Tower is worth a visit, if you are interested in political history. This was the place where all parliamentary records were kept. All the bills passed by parliament was kept here. It housed the records of the House of Lords for over 200 years. Great place to see.

If you’re interested in history, such as the Roman era, then this site is a must visit. A good step back into history to the Roman times. There are some amazing 2000 year old mosaics here, which are very definitely worth a look but there is lots more. Fascinating historical site with wonderfully preserved items. The Romans would have been thrilled to see their villa has survived to this extent over the centuries. Artefacts are brilliantly displayed. The site goes for miles and is a must-see.

This is a very beautiful 11th century castle and back in the days it was a very important strong hold for English forces.  A fantastic example of Norman architecture. Explore an ancient burial place dating back over 5,000 years. Discovered here at least 29 skeletons were found inside the cairn during the excavations in 1934, with 17 skulls arranged side by side. This is largely historic, the decoration is exquisite and gives the impression that the house is still inhabited by the family. The park is amazing, in particular that part between walls where you walk amongst trees, flowers and pheasants. The park is out of this world, so beautiful. One of the best Zoos in the UK. Over 21,000 endangered and exotic animals. A perfect getaway with kids. The grounds are very clean, and the food courts give great variety to choose from. So much to see and so much information on hand. Plenty of places around to get food with reasonable prices and plenty of space to sit down. Animals and birds are very therapeutic, and you can get very close to a lot of the animals here. Fantastic place to bring the family. The animals are always well-looked after, in clean and spacious areas. The park has lots of cafes and toilets. You definitely need to give yourself a full day in order to get around the whole place. One of the most beautiful views in the Northern Ireland. This is a steep enough climb and highly recommended in good weather. The path starts within the forest then becomes more exposed half-way up. Walk out of the forest to see bare mountains on one side and the sea on the other, all the way up to the gruelling 'steps' to reach the top.

The broch was probably constructed about 200 BC. A small walk from the free car park.  This Iron Age building is 9m tall. It is a remarkably well-preserved broch. It is probably the most complete broch you'll see. A plaque explained it is about 2300-1600 years old. You have access to the interior with some steps leading up to it. The stones are stacked on top of each other to create the structure. There are also some nice views of the surrounding area. Spectacular stone broch, free to visit. A great historical site.

This lighthouse was built in 1836. A fantastic lighthouse with lots of history. Views are simply amazing. The tour of the lighthouse is very informative and you get to see all the floors inside, all the way to the top. It's a 15-minute walk from the car park along the coastal path to get to the lighthouse. Surrounding views are breath taking.

The Castle is stunning. Access to main castle is by tour only, lasting approximately one hour. The guardroom, kitchens, gift shop and cafe are open for free. The wallpaper in the library walls is just as it was. The sculpture is all in excellent condition, scrupulously cleaned. The copper cooking utensils are treated, spotless and gleaming. All of this upkeep takes energy and time.  It’s paid off. Here you feel part of the family. The furniture and the mementos tell their stories. You can sense how the fortunes of the household wavered and wobbled and recovered wealthily. Outside in the grounds – which are open all year round there are bedding plants. And any number of statues.   And a fern dell. And a grotto. Worth visiting and revisiting. A place that could never grow stale.

The ship, a replica, is real History. You will be amazed as to how this little beauty could have survived a journey around the world. this ship sailed over 100,000 miles. The ship itself is fascinating to explore. A beautiful ship, full of history.  

Enjoy amazing views over the North Sea and its large seabird colonies. There is a beautiful castle beside sea. View the replica gun which is an exact copy of the ones used to defend against James IV and James V. This castle was the last castle built in Scotland. It was built in the mid 1300s. There are only the ruins of the castle left but they are beautiful and filled with history.

This is a beautiful little village. The village was built between 1597 and 1611. It's best in the summer when all flowers and trees are blooming. It's also a butterfly town, where butterflies and bumble bees are busy covering every garden in this historically well-preserved place. It boasts very good pottery and arts & crafts. Do explore the terraces, the views are expansive and wonderful. The whole village is a National Trust site, and it has a wonderful manor house to which you can get a guided tour. Fantastic Palace and Gardens, with something for the whole family to see and do.

This is an amazing venue for London, it’s a place filled with world class activities, places to work, eat and meet.

Wonderful place. UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are no permanent residents on this island. However, the main island  is occupied all year round by the people who work on the military base, now almost entirely a civilian workforce. The National Trust for Scotland staff are resident on the island from April to September every year.

You’re less than a mile away from one of the historic town which is very pleasant to walk around with lots of places to eat and drink. Please note the castle isn't open to the public so you will need to arrange a tour with the owners in advance. There’s an adorable cottage on site for overnight accommodations. Very nice place. Lots of history. Unique venue for a truly Scottish experience wedding.

This temple was built between 4,000 and 5,000 years ago. It comprises a wall of large stone boulders, weighing up to 300kg. The design of the temple is very similar to Neolithic houses and burial cairns. The ‘temple’ itself is pleasingly maintained and preserved with some interesting information boards close by.

This is a heavily fortified castle built for Royal residence. It was built in 1460s. It is in a very nice location. You can read some information about the castle's past on the boards at the site. An interesting ruin with a few signboards explaining the history. The surrounding cliffs, beach and park are worth visiting.  Many rooms barred to enter. No admission cost.

This Roman Fort provides a fascinating insight into life during the period of the Roman occupation.  Entrance is free however donations are encouraged. The museum houses some interesting artefacts recovered from the site. A great visitor centre with loads of Roman artefacts. As well as the excavated walls they have recreated the entrance structure and commanders’ quarters.

A natural wonder. This is a two-million-year-old natural limestone cave. Explore with expert guides these vast, beautifully illuminated rock sculpted galleries and marvel at the variety of crystal stalactites and stalagmites renowned as the finest underground scenery in the UK. At the end of 1998 a survey took place to discover exactly how far the cave system stretches beyond the existing show cave. Radar system revealed that the cave system could potentially continue beyond the boulder choke for a mile and half.  Stroll through beautiful woodland trails to a panoramic hilltop viewpoint.

A beautiful park. This is a simply stunning location. The walkway is really well laid out and there are plenty of areas for the kids to explore. Great walk along the river and through the woods. The scenery by the river is beautiful, with free parking and picnic facilities. 

 This is a sandy beach curving gently round a bay. Outstanding beach with excellent sand dunes. Always clean and beautiful and the nature reserve at the far end adds interest. This beach is cleaned on a regular basis by volunteers and is never too busy, great for dog walking. High tides and low tides can amaze you; the beach is a paradise for every child. There is a bench at the top if the sand dunes that has one of the best view's in this area.

The Venue is very big and accommodate for a wide variety of tastes which is great as there are a wide variety of people that attend events. The place is beautiful and the backstage is interesting. The museum is also interesting. It's a beautiful place and a must visit for a tennis fan. Museum is excellent and largest in the world. There are lots of benches along the way including steps that double as sitting areas. There are also little huts selling food, ice cream, rock etc. The car park is only 10 metres from the beach. Lots of sand for the kids to play when the tide is out and good for paddling. A very beautiful pleasant beach.

Beautiful place for a quick hike. The view from the top is stunning, you can see all around! The climb is perfectly manageable. It's a moderate trail, with some stairs to the top, which are worth it. 

Beautiful setting. Unfortunately, it's closed off and locked up, so you can't go inside. It's a short walk along the shoreline and then a quick viewing from a distance. The old ruins are on the shore-front.  But very beautiful view and scenery. The castle ruins views with sideways views of the sea are nice. The castle was built possibly on the site of an earlier fort in the late 16th or early 17th century.

The light house was built in 1821. The views are spectacular, there’s great wildlife and the coffee shop is a great place to sit. It’s only a 10-minute walk up the hill from the car park. What a beautiful place to go to see birds and the marine sea life. The coastline here is simply breath taking with the cliffs and the sea. There is a walkway along the cliffs to the Lighthouse which makes it easy to walk. The light house is very picturesque. The historic lighthouse buildings with really informative exhibitions.

A beautiful sandy beach along the Coast of Northern Ireland. This stunning beach is definitely worth a visit. The museum was established in 1884. The museum is very educational and offers a wide range of things to look at, showing animals which are now extinct. Great museum with a mix of exhibitions from the animal kingdom and different ancient cultures. Exhibitions include dinosaurs, Romans, Egyptians, oceans, wildlife and much more. This is a great place for kids as they have a few interactive things here and there. There are a lot of visual exhibits spread across two floors and a library on the third. Great place for all ages, plenty to see and learn. It's free with voluntary donations.

The Royal Palace today lies roofless and ruined which is surrounded by a magic lake.  The gates still inspire awe in visitors. The site was first occupied as far back as Roman times 2,000 years ago. It’s in a beautiful setting in the countryside in a small town. One of the highlights of the Palace is a recently restored fountain. The history, the architecture, and the surrounding town and Lake make this a great day out. Stunning views if you climb to the top of the palace. It allows you to step back in time.  A chilling reminder of what the Cold War was like back in the '80's. it's remarkable what the museum has managed to collect. This is large flying museum.This place is amazing. Plenty of real planes, models and flights equipment. Well planned, with many charms for children. Free entry. Plenty to see. Totally worth it. Excellent museum for everyone. Kids will love it. Parking in front of the museum with plenty of space. 

A museum in London. If you are a fan of fictional detective films or books, this is a perfect place to visit. The museum is an ingenious place with 3 floors, which contain wonderful antiques. It has turned into an institution. The house has a Grade 2 listing due to its unique historical features.  

A Grade I Georgian country house, which contains a variety of historical treasures. Take a tour around the family library and chapel, and visit the room in which oxygen was discovered by  in 1974. Other features include the sculpture gallery, orangery and exhibition rooms. The garden of the house is known for its Italian-inspired landscape. The 30 acres gardens that are located two miles from the House, are an essential viewing (and only open for only six weeks per year!). Children can take part in many different activities here, as there is an Adventure Playground. Take a walk amongst the treetops on the aerial walkways and experience the famous space dive.

A beautifully preserved Elizabethan house with a rich history. The grounds are large and beautiful, and if you follow the path up the large stone stairs directly opposite the house there's a beautiful trail into the woods with some interesting stone walls and features. The house located in a large park there are a couple of beautiful rooms. Lovely and unusual hall with nice feature and a very nice textile collection. There is also a room with toys and activities for children. Great historical place to visit, guides give you lots of information about the rooms, the family and furniture that is in the Hall. Well worth a visit for the whole family. Parking here is free.

This has the iconic ship, along with other smaller ships. This place has a massive historical value as its one of the most important ports in British era. Very good day out with history that you can walk through. This is over two hundred years old but still in commission, fully furnished and you can walk through every deck reliving the role it played at the battle of Trafalgar. Before your visit it's worth reading up on the battle of Trafalgar. The docks is a fantastic place to visit. There is so much to see and do. The boat trip across the harbour is great and gives great views of the tower and the marina. If you like the sea, maritime history and learning about life on the waves this is it. Great historic dockyard. Plenty of history here and fun for all the family. There is so much to see and to learn about. 

A splendid 14th century Manor House, is set in magnificent Elizabethan gardens. One of the favourite places to visit with the kids. The stately home and gardens were used as a hunting lodge for King Henry VII. The building is very impressive. Amazing British history. A great place for visitors and a great day out. Movies and TV series have been filmed here.

This is an excellent way to learn about the history of mail in London. Fascinating look back at how the mail was transported across London below ground. Ride on part of the below ground network, learn about the history of mail rail and visit the museums. Here is a 20-minute ride on the underground train and kids will love it. Amazing place where you don't get bored.

Such a large site and free to visit. Great picnic area in summer and lots still standing. Worth a day exploring and looking up its history. But the ruins of the palace give it its true romantic appeal.  Spacious and uncrowded the site leaves the impression of genuine historic documentation. Ancient ruins from the 12th century. The palace was badly damaged in the Civil War (1642–9) and subsequently abandoned. A good historical landmark, worthwhile visiting and learning more about the history of the town. One of Britain’s most distinguished naval commanders of modern times, lived here after the Second World War.

This is a science and local history museum. The Museum is a great place to take families, lots of things to do and see. The science area is particularly interesting with lots of buttons to press. The military exhibits are really nice and interesting.  A good range of exhibitions with plenty to keep kids interested. Over 300 acres of beautiful ancient parkland to explore and stretch your leg. The UK’s largest winter garden begins to come to life. It’s buzzing with wildlife here all year round and you can often see deer hanging about on the tree-lined avenue that leads to the house.

A lovely historical location for a family walk. A pretty and contained circular walk around the walls of this ancient Roman settlement. Large archaeological site revealing Iron Age and Roman settlements, and best-preserved Roman urban area walls in England. Originally a tribal base of the Iron Age.  It was abandoned in the end of 6th or beginning of 7th century, and it were never reoccupied. This is an excellent example of a rare site in the UK. The car park is free and there are informative signs along the way. Where else can you expect to see a Roman wall without a busy crowded town? It is a pleasant walk on top of the wall, quite tall in places, with many boards explaining the history of the city.

This building is over 200 years old. It is maintained by a charity and volunteers. It demonstrates some interesting thinking, and an interesting engineering solution to make the canal viable at the time. The pumps are active on certain days of the year, such as the steam fare. If you like steam powered engines or serious industrial engineering, this is perfect. Fantastic to see the working engine. There's a lovely café, but if you're going with a family it may even be worth having a picnic.

You can relax and enjoy the breath-taking scenery and take advantage of the many outdoor pursuits that are available to you. Amazing location of holiday lodge. Explore lots of wildlife including deer, golden eagles and sea otters. This is a perfect location for a break. The lodge is perfect situation right on the beach with beautiful clear blue water and white sands.

This is historical sites. Very interesting place requires a couple of hours to actually take in all it has to offer. There are 45-minute guided tours round the combat field. There is no romanticism of the final battle on the moor, where so many clansmen lost their lives. Discover the true story, in less than an hour, around 1,600 men were slain. This is the place where the history of Scotland was decided. A well laid out walk through the timeline and background of this tragic event. There are museum aides who will answer questions and they put on participatory demonstrations to clarify the history. This place is amazing. It's a great tribute to the men who gave their lives. Excellent visitor centre which tells the story leading up to the last battle on the UK mainland. 

The Museum displaying an unusual mixture of medical art facts and original artworks exploring "ideas about the connections between medicine, art and life". The Museum attracts over 700,000 visitors per year and is advertised as "the free destination for the incurably curious". Good place to visit different exhibitions throughout the year.  

One of the greatest of all British abbeys. This edifice was founded shortly after a 597 AD.  It is said to mark the rebirth of Christianity in Southern England. The museum offers headphones as well as even more modern virtual reality headsets. The immersive experience concentrates on the 1500s. But of course, there is nothing to stop you from simply soaking up the atmosphere of the place that was built a millennium and a half ago.

Enjoyable for both adults and children. Nicely laid out museum with much more than a collection of old tools. The horse sculpture made from scrap iron is fantastic. A lovely place to visit, with plenty to see.

The British Isles can offer few better ways on the British Isles of seeing how our ancestors lived than by visiting this site. Here a community lived during those prehistoric times. Ancient dwelling places. And other structures down through the ages. All in one place. The land all around contains the power of history and aeons of human existence. An intimate sandy beach with an interesting natural stone arch.The most attractive stretch of shore has a series of sandy coves.Beach has both sandy and shell areas with great rocks for climbing.There is a car park right beside the beach which offers easy access.

This is a shorter, sharper variation of rock climbing, done without ropes, over lower heights and safety matting with over 250 different climbs available. There are also separate areas for younger customers, as well as elite training, coaching, kids clubs and parties.

The farm is great with lots of animals to feed and some to hold. The indoor soft play is brilliant. Visitors of all ages are able to enjoy fun rides such as: safari train, spinning honey pot, Dexter tractor ride, toy carousel rides, lazy river boat rides, shark island interactive ride & lots more. A great day out for all the family, lots of animals to see, from llamas to rabbits, sheep to ferrets. A great selection of rides for kids of all ages.

. A working windmill from 1821. Beautifully situated in a stunning landscape. A great place to see an example of Pre-Industrial Revolution engineering. This is a cultural hot spot. The windmill is carefully restored and well maintained by volunteers. The presentation describes the milling process. Great piece of working history. Very picturesque and a great place to spend some quiet time. Access this spot is free.  

This tall octagonal tower light house is after the first oldest medieval light house in Britain and is still surviving to this day. It is stone structure and is quite big being four stories high. The shape is octagonal on the outside and four sided on the inside. Wonderful views all around. Lighthouse in good condition well worth a visit.

This is a gun shop. Well stocked retail shop with outdoor and indoor air rifle and full bore ranges with excellent facilities. Not only is it just a shop it also has an air rifle range which also has wind free lanes too. If you are new to shooting and wanted advice on buying an air rifle, this is great place for help. Come and have a go newest and best air rifle range. There is also a  membership, where you can save money. Prices in the shop are very reasonable even compared to some online stores.

It is believed to be the only remaining example of hollow post flour mill in England. Although it has changed considerably over the past 150 years there is no other mill like it. The models shown are part of the display in this museum. 

The abbey sits on many thousands of acres of land and contained farm buildings and a multitude of fishponds. It was thus a ruined 13th century abbey converted into a Tudor mansion. The last monastery rules to be founded in England. The place is a favourite for bride and groom wedding photographs. The abbey is in free access. Nice quiet and interesting old abbey ruins. 

‘Greek Revival Architecture’ has many good examples including this, which lays in a landscaped park. It was nearly demolished in 1975 and is now an opera venue. Taking place are parties and weddings which are services rented out to the public. Ancient Roman looking building. What a beautifully romantic use of a glorious derelict building, steeped in history. Wonderfully secluded and quiet with wonderful views of countryside. Lovely place to visit, open to the public free of charge and a great place to have a picnic.

This water park is excellent for children of all ages. If the kids love swimming then it is a essential place to visit. Both the indoor and outdoor pools are fantastic. There are lots of fun water-related activities to do, go down slides and stand underneath waterfalls. You can easily spend the whole day here as there are enough slides and swimming areas to entertain all ages. Amazing bonding place for parents and children. 

Beautiful little Gothic/Jacobean manor house, little changed since 1650 and still a family home today. Very nice little manor, rich in history. Small but beautiful manor house with nice gardens and an adjoining church. The house retains all the character it had 400 years ago. Explore two rare early keyboard instruments. A guided tour of the House is available. Very tranquil and formal topiary gardens. Limited opening times so do check before visiting.

A singular farm. No wonder it was used as a location for Downton Abbey. More than a millennium’s worth of stories. A proper old-fashioned garden, still operating more or less as it did during the sixteen-hundreds, where fruit and veggies and flowers grow.  And welcoming animals roam freely around, ready to be met and to communicate. An enchanting day out for anyone, no matter how old or how young or how cynical or difficult to impress.  

This was a royal residence. Historic building with world class art. This is one of the most interesting building in the country. The museum is simply brilliant and there isn't another museum comparable to it for the scope and variety of treasures. Great exhibits across different cultures and time periods. A great art collection museum with a lot of incredible masterpieces that can only be found here. One of London's best museums of world culture. There’s something here for everyone. Admission is free. 

Opened in 1822 after 9 years of work, this canal is one of the most fascinating waterways in Europe. The canal system is about 60 miles in length. Amazing place for a sailing holiday.  Breath-taking beauty and many points of interest along the entire length of the canal. There are excellent mooring and accommodation options along the course of the canal. It is best done by boat, of which there are many charter options.

Scenic walk down from a small car park through a wooded valley until you reach a pebble beach. It is about a mile from the carpark, which is at the end of a single track road. Once you get to the shore its amazing. Great scenery. The cave itself is a small one and is covered with memorials and little crosses. A lovely walk down to the cave then Along the cobble beach, really worth a visit to see this ancient monument. 

Jump instructors will guide you through everything here. This will make a very memorable day. Gain an amazing experience by leaping out of a plane at 15,000 feet.  The 15,000 feet option gives you a full minute of freefall, reaching speeds of 125mph. It's a really lovely area to jump in, with stunning views. On the flight up you get a good view of the coast, which you can see when falling too, depending on orientation. 

This is very special place. Lots of history in these ruins. Well over a 1000 years history in and around the Abbey and palace. Ancient architecture all around. Several movies had filmed here, and the history is fascinating. Lots of opportunities for great photos amongst the dramatic walls and windows of both buildings.The Abbey is beautiful. Explore the burial place of King who secured Scotland’s independence after the battle of Bannockburn in 1314. Many Scottish Royalty were buried here at one time.The stained glass, pipe organ, woodwork is breath-taking.There is a lot to see with the ruinous palace and inside the abbey.   

A castle which is over 900 years old that has been an integral part of British history. Explore this castle by taking part in activities such as climbing the castle, exploring its dungeons and discovering the stories of the castle, including the prisoner’s escapes. See the ‘Licking Stones’ where prisoners went for moisture and observe the interesting carvings on the castle floor.

This is 12th century ruin, just the wall surviving. Here there is a lot of local information from where the allies planned their invasion for D-Day.In 1133, it was built by Henry I as a gift for Augustinian canons.

A splendid museum of pumping and steam. The museum is chock-a-block full of steam engines of varying sizes and applications. A large number of restored engines can be seen in action on Steaming Days. If you like steam engines and pumps you'll love it. It was built in 1830. There is a narrow gauge railway too, which on steaming days will take you from the car park to the main part of the site. 

A wide sandy beach. Its stunning views. The beach was used as a trading port with ships onloading their goods here. No longer a large trading port today the beach is especially popular with visitors who come to view the stunning sights.

Explore the sights, sounds and smells of an 1835 working mill. This clattering belt-driven machinery once fed the industrial revolution-making millions of bobbins for 135 years- and today feed your imagination with a picture of Victorian working life. Take a tour of the remarkably intact interiors and soak up the atmosphere of a lost era as you watch bobbins being made on the original belt- driven machinery. 

A gorgeous Abbey. This is 12th century abbey. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere at this ruined medieval abbey. Fabulous place with plenty of history. Spectacular ruin in beautiful countryside. See original paint work and hear voice echo in medieval chapter house. It was home to a community of Cistercian monks for 400 years. Beautiful abbey in a lovely location. A great ruin to have a look around and imagine what it would have been like back then. 

This is a historic place. The abbey built in 1246. In 1539 it has been dissolved. There is virtually nothing left. Very interesting abbey ruin with lots of history. Great to wonder around and read the information boards. All that remains is a museum on the site which contains many artefacts. An excellent place to visit, the remains of the monastery where surrounding the remains is a wildlife. The views are stunning. 

The castle was built in the later1400s as the fortified residence and this is a fine example of Scottish tower house castle. The tower’s wall is 2.5m thick and it’s clearly built with defence in mind.  Beautiful castle situated on a hill with great views which you can see from the top. The garden beside the ticket office was a lovely place to enjoy a picnic and watch the wildlife. 

A really pretty railway journey alongside the coast, with many lovely places to explore and stop on the way. The railway offers 20 miles of heritage railway through amazing countryside. The trains are beautiful, and the stations are picturesque. A fantastic day out and plenty to see. 

Almost 900 years old. Built circa 1166. Established by Henry II. This old structure housed Augustinian monks. The buildings and the devout men within it survived sustained salvoes for more than two hundred years from the early 14th Century until late in the 16th Century as the English and Scottish pounded each other. These remains here tell the tales of these events and many more besides.  

A stunning Tudor mansion. A lovely property with so much history attached to it. Lovely building and grounds. The building is very quirky with lots of interesting features. The building is interesting to see and explore around. You can really get a sense of what it was like to live there in the middle ages. How amazing that this place was constructed centuries ago. Explore a house without foundations and built on marsh, which survives to this day. The building defies gravity.

A large gorgeous beach. White sands, clear waters surrounded by amazing cliffs and slow decent into the water, so you can go slow before getting too deep. There is a large car park and toilets too. A lovely place to walk and explore the rocks. You can picnic on the grass or sandy beach. Stunningly beautiful. lovely sands and very sheltered. During the summer months it is packed by locals and tourists.

The garden is lovely to walk through and notice the many different types of plants. Within the garden is a lovely tearoom where you can sit in or outside. Beautiful house with many hidden treasures.

Small sandy beach, with big cliffs which you can walk around. Small unique Loch with rocky hills surrounding it. Nice for a walk along the cliffs of on the beach. Perfect little beach with good walks all around. The sand is almost white and the water very blue and clear.

Presents the history of the Romans, from around 2000 years ago, and their empire. It was only occupied for about a generation.  At the time the barrier was built by the Roman army and was around 37 miles long.  It was abandoned in the AD160s. The barrier was only used eight years after completion. It was never a stone barrier. The Roman military stationed along this barrier. This also acted as a secure crossing point to control movements north and south. Explore the steep ditches, ramparts, forts and bathhouses. Stunning historical locations. 

The building is very interesting. More than 500 years old. Magnificent Tudor Great Hall. Lots to see and do with story tellers, donkey rides, carol singers, kid’s activities etc. The House has a key hunt for the young ones. Enjoy a stroll around the gardens, along the canal and then through the woods. The Hall gives some insight into the history of the families who built it and lived here for centuries. Amazing and stunning rooms kept well by the numerous staff. The stained-glass windows are a definite must see they are just breath-taking. The whole place is enhanced by being beside the canal. 

An absolutely magical place.  An ideal place for children for an educational visit combined with pleasure. There is a small train ride for the little ones that is fun for them. So much fun walking around the village.  Amazing attention to detail with all the models. Suitable for nursery, infants and juniors. A great family day out.  

A beautiful canal with an excellent tow path. A really beautiful, peaceful place to wander. It has so much to offer. Wildlife aplenty. It's steeped in history. It's peaceful but one can meet many sociable like-minded walkers. Plenty of activities to be enjoyed both on the water and the canal path. Several pubs to stop for a drink or something to eat along the way and lots of swans along the way. You and your family will have a wonderful time. It is also available for private hire during the day and evenings.

This water park is an area of 40 square miles, with more than 170 lakes set across the countryside. Within the water park there is a diverse range of businesses offering accommodation, leisure activities and food and drink. 

An old fortress. The stories of what happened here during the Middle Ages are of real interest. So are the tales of both World Wars. It is possible to climb up the Great Tower all the way to the top. One of the best museums in the world. The architecture of the building is just amazing. Great place. Free entry. It's huge place, it takes to 2-3 hours to go around. A lot of interesting things to see. There are amazing displays that show how incredible our planet truly is. The exhibits are spectacular and the building architecture is just simply breath-taking. The museum is home to life and earth science. This museum is particularly famous for its exhibition of dinosaur skeletons. You can spend a whole day here without being bored. But if you haven't been and you either live on the UK or are a tourist this is a must see. 

Important historic site and audio guides are great to lead you around the underground complex and give lots on information. It’s atmospheric and the numerous excellent exhibits capture and represent the WW history. The war rooms themselves are well preserved with lots to see. Fascinating insight into how the war was run. Get up close to artefacts revealing wartime leader’s personal and political life in the interactive this museum. 

There is a single fort out of many which was erected in the 1850s and 1860s. A great place to visit with lots of history on view. Built between 1858-62 and contains the parade ground, gun ramps and a moated keep which remain unchanged and can be viewed in their entirety. There are lots of things to explore, including exhibits, and is a great place to have a picnic too. Free entry. This fort is surrounded by a lake with ducks and swans and a lot of big carp. 

Shingle and sand beaches ideal for families. Very clean and a small beach. 

This is a sandy beach and surrounded by rock.  It is a part of a national scenic area and there are plenty of national trust areas around the beach. Admire the natural beauty. There is some parking-a large free car park as you arrive at the top of the village. 

The monkeys are lovely. Lots of monkeys to see with good educational details. Great layout and easy to get around. The saving centre do such a great work rescuing the mistreated animals and it is a great place to see as a witness these magnificent monkeys are in a good place. They rescue primates from around the world. Some that have been used in labs and the pet trades. What a great place that does great work for these clever animals that have had an awful time. Wonderful rescue and rehabilitation place. Enjoy a wonderful experience for the kids and adults. There are plenty play areas situated in a variety of locations within the centre which provides a nice break. The centre has plenty picnic areas. This is really great day out. An interesting collection of classic cars in a private museum that also uses some of the vehicles for wedding hire. A great castle with a fantastic history. Very popular Scottish visitor attraction. A fortress on top of a mountain. A place overflowing with stories and wonders. This castle is big. It was formed after the Norman Conquest with a stone keep, it was converted into a residence during the 14th century by the Earl of Devon. The castle went into a ruin in 1539. There is a great spot for a picnic by the river and beautiful woodlands nearby. This is also a great place for bird lovers with a variety of species who visit in the spring and early summer. Take in the meadow of seasonal wild flowers around the motte. Perfect spot for a picnic, close to the river and the castle.

This place was founded by King Henry VIII. It is one of the first and most thoroughly equipped coastal fortresses. And quite a few of those castles were built along the shore. It is a Tudor fortress, set up so that cannon can be deployed wherever such weapons might be needed. You can walk and clamber through and around the entire building. You can visit the storerooms. You can go into the captain’s room on the first floor. The building now has a permanent exhibition, which shows clearly how Henry VII worried about his land, the defence of it and its survival. Lovely historical market in London. You will find people selling a lot of interest things, antiques, bags, shoes, vintage clothing, jewellery and so much more. The variety of stalls you can find here which is impressive. There is a lovely area where you can buy delicious street food, from Spanish, Chinese, Indian and lots more. The market attracts thousands of tourists each year. 

This is an iconic attraction and a great, family-friendly day out. Built in 1875, it was a successful boat lift in the beginning, designed to bridge the 50 foot gap between the River and the canal. An engineering masterpiece, not only does it still do the job it was designed to do, but it does so with the most ingenious and endearing character of any structure on the canal system today. Take a river cruise, a boat trip through the lift or simply relax with free entry into the coffee shop, interactive exhibition, gift shop and grounds with adventure play area.

This place is littered with history and has some great artefacts.  The museum is beautiful and located just looking over the beautiful river. Extremely interesting and well presented. Well worth a visit if it’s within your interests. 

Once upon a time this was one of the wealthiest establishments of its kind in all of England. What has been unearthed, preserved and protected here is endlessly fascinating. By strolling among the ruins and spending time in the special on-site museum, visitors are able to learn the stories of this once lavish, historically important, atmospheric and special place.  

A Roman distance marker stone, which was found in 1868. One of the best examples of its kind. It is currently displayed at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. However, a replica has been installed at the park.

A pre historic burial site that's generally well kept. There are Burial hills from the Bronze Age which were built over 4,000 years ago.  Absolutely stunning. This is the property of English Heritage.

Really gives you a sense of what it was like to live in a croft house in centuries past. Be sure to walk down to the abandoned mill; it's neat, and the landscape is beautiful. On entering there is a fire in the grate, and you are greeted with the earthy smell of burning peat, making it very warm and cosy. A look back in time of how people used to live and work. Your chance to visit history and see how life used to be. 

This is an art museum. One of the best art galleries in London. This is an excellent place to see British art through the ages from 1500 to the present day. Lovely art galleries with many masters' work on display. It houses an array of historic, contemporary and iconic art and sculptures. Always an amazing art gallery with a wide choice of artists from Turner to Henry Moore. Good range of British art through the ages. The museum building itself is a work of art, and has a great location on the Thames. The best part is its free to visit. 

Lovely museum hosting various aircrafts, dating back to the First World War, ranging from test-flying and commercial airline type planes to military with some of them actually seeing combat. You can climb into the cockpit of most of them which makes the experience all the more exciting. The hangar has 2 wings with one of them hosting actual engines and missiles along with rescue helicopters and a pioneer version of the plane. This is a brilliant place for plane fanatics and an excellent place to visit and learn about the historic planes of the past. A must visit museum if you are an aircraft enthusiast. They have some wonderful WW1 documents, maps and clothing. There is plenty of seating outside where you could enjoy a picnic and parking is easily accessible here. It is a must for a family and educational day out. 

Fascinating and very well-preserved fortified house built in 1598. The castle is a splendid example of tower house architecture. Torches provided to explore the vaults. It has good access to the site and different areas of the building. Free admission.

The history of this fortress includes the incarceration of George Fox. Fox, who founded the Quakers was imprisoned here in 1656. Nowadays you can stretch out, kick back, enjoy your picnic and revel in the lovely verdant surroundings and the picturesque, breath-taking valley below. The building, resting on a hillock, stands proud and tall. Its centrepiece is an uncommon keep, made up of around tower, built during the 13th century and surrounding the shell keep, one that was made earlier. You can clamber up a staircase inside the two shells to the top of the tower and the top of the hill. It's worth it for the stunning view.  

The construction of this fortress was completed in 1545, according to the instructions of King Henry VIII. And it follows the ‘clover leaf’ design. Lucky for some. The fortress made up part of the King’s Device plan. King Henry wanted to prevent or to protect his land against invasion from France and the Holly Roman Empire. The fortifications were bolstered with cannon and gun posts. The building also happens to stand in a lovely part of the land, by the coast, overlooking the waves. It has also been reported to contain be the most elaborate décor of all of the castles built by Henry.  

The tower is 74 feet tall with 99 steps inside to reach the top and a view over the city. It was built in the 13th century. Great spot to see city centre from above.

A wonderful sheltered cove and beach. A short walk along rough paths take you from the car park to the beach, passing an ancient graveyard that is still used today. Some of the graves are war graves. Just offshore is a Time and Tide bell, one of 12 put up around Britain by Marcus Vergette as an art installation. Also present on site is a reconstructed Iron Age dwelling. Quiet and peaceful white sandy beach with magnificent scenery. Amazing stunning beautiful. A beach with sea to swim in sand to build castles. The beach has a bit of everything. Lots of history in the area.

The stones were erected about 4,000 to 5,000 years ago likely for ceremonial use. It is about 3m high. The stones are part of an extensive prehistoric landscape. The standing stones are a small Neolithic or Bronze age stone. Feel history through the stones.

This is the place where Queen Margaret's came to the cave for pray. It's obviously a very ancient shrine. It has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. The story behind it is interesting and worth a visit. This is 900 years history.  It is absolutely free to enter.  

The museum is a medical museum. It contains over 2,000 objects relating to the story of anaesthesia.The covering date from 1774 to the present day. Its provide a detailed insight into the history of medicine relating to anaesthesia and anaesthetic equipment as well as pain relief and resuscitation. This might just be the most noteworthy of all Roman sites on these islands. Once there was a busy harbour here. It was a gateway to Britain under Roman rule. The site is now more than 2 miles away from the ocean. But one can use one's imagination and understand that this place saw the start and the finish of Roman rule in Britain. First this was a house. A Manor houses. It has a tower which you can climb. And there is a passage, deep below the ground which runs between the tower and the cooking area. It was a matter of status. During the 15th century after extensive rebuilding the house was allowed to call itself a castle. 

Henry VII built this fortress. It was one of the most advanced artillery fortresses in England. Cannons were mounted here.  Used as an air base for seaplanes during the World War. And it was deliberately set at one extreme end of a coastal spit, closest to the ocean, plenty of things to see and do. The castle is split into two areas, one for the history of the war and the other for the monarchy. Amazing panoramic views from the top of the castle. Very informative and plenty to see. You can either walk about a mile across the beach to reach the castle or pay to take the boat.

This is a Victorian style castle. The castle is well worth a visit. It was built in the 14th century. With medieval origins it was substantially improved in the sixteenth century. Well-preserved with an interesting history. Beautiful walled garden with an interesting collection of fruit, vegetables and many beautiful flowers.

This is one of oldest Scotland’s distillery. Tours of distillery dating from 1775. The distillery is very nice. It’s good to see a small distillery where you can understand the process. The brewing process is still very much manual here which adds a more personal and unique element to it compared to other distilleries. Good place to taste some great whiskeys. 

 A sandy beach sheltered by grass banked area with rocks and rockpools allow the children to explore in all weathers. Beautiful beach and surroundings. Simply a quiet but stunning beach. The water is pretty shallow most of the way out, perfect for young kids to splash around in the water without any worries of big waves. Shops and cafes nearby. Free parking.

Interesting museum on local history. Excellent collection of items from prehistoric times until the modern day. Set within the old castle at the centre of town, where it has been since the 19th century. There is a lot of local information. History on The Duke of Wellington who fought in the Zulu wars. Lots of uniforms and weapons on display and up to date information of present regiments. There is also an art gallery showing works from a local artist. Good variety of displays to keep you looking for a good amount of time. Fantastic place to take the kids. The museum itself is well laid out and good for all ages. Entrance is free.

This award-winning site offers unforgettable wildlife encounters, beautiful scenery and special events. Get close to rare and exotic birds including the rarest goose in the world. It is such a beautiful place with so many happy well-kept creatures and an amazing nature reserve. If you want to see wildlife this is a great place to visit the paths around the perimeter have good access and well worth taking the time to sit in the hides. It's a great place to take the kids and have an explore. Really nice place to take the kids with plenty of bird life to see.

Plenty of birds to see and feed. There are also a few walk-through enclosures which allows one to get closer to the birds. There also a nice little farm and aquarium.  There is plenty to do, so much fun by feeding and watching. Throughout the day you can enjoy a trip on the safari road train, from which you can view some of the larger birds at the park. There is plenty to see and a large variety of animals.

Great place for a step back in time day out. Enjoy the Britain’s largest collection of working steam. Ride the world’s first white knuckle ride. The narrow-gauge railway is 2-foot gauge steam railway running for approximately 1.5 miles through woodlands and fields. There is something for everyone to enjoy in the gardens. See the collection of road engines and steam rollers. Great for all the family young and old. The steam powered rides are fantastic and will bring back memories for some, even though most where converted to electricity the rides where the same. The miniature steam garden railway is always popular for visitor. Although originally aimed at the children, it seems that the adults find it just as attractive. 

The museum is extremely interesting from a point of view of social history. There are also very good exhibits along with people dressed and acting on the times of the past. An example of this was the women's Suffragette Movement which was enacted on the streets and culminated with a debate in the town hall. Loads of buildings to explore and also has free old-fashioned trams and buses to ride to the different parts of the museum. Perhaps you need four full days to explore everything there. Fascinating glimpse into the history of the local area, ticket options are all for an annual, unlimited pass which is great value if you're local or can visit regularly. A very nice and historical place.  There are many examples of social interaction within the museum and it is excellent. Plenty of parking, easy access and options to walk around or use period buses and trams. It is educational for all ages. Great for families, or just an interesting day out

A wonderful attraction for all ages. Beautiful rail journey and the various stations on the route look great for stopping off either for food or beauty spots if you can make a day of it on the days. Many red kites and other wildlife can be seen in their habitats whilst you listen to the valley echo with the voice of the engine. A great family adventure, the scenery is spectacular. This castle is one of the largest inhabited castles in the country. It looks amazing from the outside as the pictures show. Fantastic location with breath-taking scenery. Amazing large castle and grounds. A really great day out for all the family. Really enjoyable and unlike many historic places you feel close to the experience. The Castle occupies a strong defensive position on top of a volcanic rock. The site served as the capital of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Bernicia but was destroyed by the Vikings in AD 993. The Normans later built a castle on the site which evolved into a formidable border fortress. A walk on the beach makes this visit extra lovely.

Very nice lake. Great scenery and views.  Beautiful landscapes and so much history. Gorgeous views all over the place, and the legends surrounding the castles on the loch, as well as the loch itself, make everything more special. Nearby a castle is definitely worth a visit. A gorgeous loch to drive around & enjoy the villages along the way.

A great place to visit for a day with the family.  The place is immaculate.  A great golf range which is kept in great order and run by lovely people. They allow all ages and offer club hire and special offers which are on their website to see.  An excellent place to go whether you are a golfer or not and no matter how good a golfer you are.

Views are breath-taking and the beach is gorgeous, perfect for safe swimming. 14 miles of single-track road to get there but well worth the trip. Enjoy the scenery when you drive along the single-track road to reach the beaches passing through the grounds of the privately owned castle half way along the route. large parking area.

The Italian Chapel is a highly ornate Catholic chapel. This an amazing small Chapel as it consists of two Nissan huts that were put together. You will be amazed at the ornate interior, especially the tiles. It is still used as a Chapel today. Built by Italian prisoners of war during WW2. The painting is what you would expect from a much more professional and planned church construction. The chapel walls are quite delicate and you are not allowed to touch for preservations sake. This is a beautiful and simple little chapel that reflects the heart and soul of those who built it. Amazing little chapel and very interesting to see what materials had been used for numerous things. There is a sense of love and purity from within that makes you appreciate how lucky you are to visit it. Explore and visit just for the history behind the chapel. What an amazing history of a place. Well worth seeing. 

Established in 1750.  This is a porcelain manufacturer company.  Discover the heritage, experience the hand craftsmanship on a factory tour.  The showcase collection is inherently beautiful.  Extraordinary dinnerware collections available online, which are made in England. There is a retail shop for discounted fine bone china giftware and cutlery.

This is a great place to take in the wonderful views across to the Isle. Some amazing views through the way top and the most beautiful view as a reward when you get to the end. There is an interesting history attached to this monument.  The monument was built in 1782. And enjoyable view to the countryside. This place is definitely worth a visit.

The views are stunning and the area beneath the lighthouse has a few caves to explore. Very interesting and well worth a visit. If you enjoy history, social history, the views here are something you will appreciate. Visitors are welcome to stay here. The cottage is ideal for exploring the beach and surrounding areas. You can only get into the lighthouse area by appointment. Beautiful beach with lovely, fine sand and nice view of the lighthouse, which is illuminated at night.

This is an amazing historical place. Great place to see a Roman Fort. There are loads of fort foundations here to see and a brilliant remains of a bath house, you can walk round and get up really close. Beautifully kept grounds sympathetically to the rural surrounding landscape. You can see the ruins of all four main gates and barracks as well as the heart of the fort. A nice little gift shop and information centre. The museum is laid out in an interesting and informative way showing the artefacts and explaining about them.  This is suitable for all ages. Well worth a visit.

This is one of the places that makes the history of the Jacobite rebellion tangible. A visit to the nearby museum is encouraged. Some historical legends rest here. The surrounding hills and the Outer Hebrides on the ocean are just breath-taking. The views and walk up are stunning. Well worth a look around and a place to sit and consider.

There are plenty of things for all to do & see here. It’s not only fun but educational too. There are lots of places to sit & have a picnic if you don't want to go into the indoor play area. They have lots of animals you can feed by hand. There are ride on peddle tractors and pay for motorised vehicles. The animal handling is well organised but can get very busy in school holidays. Easy way to spend the day.

See one of Scotland’s most dramatic waterfalls. Really impressive waterfalls and an easy walk down from the carpark. When in full spate this waterfall is a monster and the suspension bridge across the gorge allows you an uninterrupted, up close view of it. The bridge is beautiful. From July to late September you can see the salmon leaping high out of the water in there way upstream. There are multiple walks in the area for all levels of ability. Lovely place to walk around, with beautiful scenery. 

The broch is absolutely gorgeous. Easily accessible from the main road at the top of the hill and there is a car park. As ruin, there is not much left, it’s impressive that a structure of over 2,000 years is still there. Climb to the top and check out the amazing construction of the broch. Nice view and some imagination you visualise how it must have been. Extremely well kept, excellent information boards and brilliant view. 

White sands that stretch for miles. This is such a beautiful spot to see birds, horse flies, listen to the waves and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The beaches are so incredibly peaceful, and the water is turquoise and very clear.  Enjoy this lovely wide  beach. 

The area is a great place to spot dolphins. You can admire the charming thatched cottages and ancient chapels as you stroll along the white sand. It is a haven for wildlife.

Discover a very informative glass blowing demonstration. It’s free to enter but survives on donations from visitors. The glass blowing demonstrations are really good and also free. Really interesting demonstrations throughout the day, along with hands on workshops and exhibitions.  It's well worth taking the time to watch these incredibly skilled people work their magic with glass. This is nice setting on the river. The whole centre is brilliantly laid out and accessibility is superb. A fantastic place for all the family to visit. Free parking at this spot.

A perfect day out for all the family. 56 acres of breath-taking woodland garden. This place has many magnificent and rare trees.  Outstanding collection of plants. Great place! Splendid arboretum, naturalistic magnificence. Lovely place to visit for a relaxing couple of hours. Lovely Arboretum. Beautiful trees and plants.

This is a lovely sandy beach. A beautiful campsite right on the beach.  It is the nice place to go if you are camping. Sea views across to the hills and eagles flying over the site.  There is a campsite shop and also a just opening is a bike hire on the campsite. 

There is a beautiful pump room, which will provide information and inspiration for your visit. Established in 1894 for the 7th Duke of Devonshire, the Victorian venue also offers an insight into the town’s spa heritage and has an evening events programme.

Beautiful spots along the miles of its journey. Lovely views. Breath-taking. This is one of Scotland’s major landmarks, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This is a small Sandy beach area with a great view. Nice black sand beach. The dinosaur footprints are easy to see and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a busy beach. Free on-street parking.

This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the UK. There is a good viewing platform with very good views. The falls themselves are very impressive. There is a wooden plank viewpoint that protrudes from the cliff, it has amazing views of the sea and the waterfalls. Gorgeous coastline and waterfall. Definitely worth a visit. 

Boat trips along the Thames. The surroundings are very beautiful and calm unlike Central London. Absolutely different. The sights as you go along are beautiful and festive. A Thames river boat cruise in SW London. This is a 300-year-old river boat company that cruises along one of the most beautiful stretches of the Thames. A pleasant way to travel the Thames.

Nice falls with a proper balcony made to view it.The falls cannot be described in words as they are so wonderful. The site is based nearby a waterfall where you can see salmons leaping. Enjoy a lovely little place and a lovely walk down to the falls, to see the salmon jumping is truly amazing in their natural habitat. There are lots of activities, including for children, and a very nice restaurant.The venue looks stunning. Overall, it’s a great place to visit for all ages.There is plenty of parking. 

Looks like there was a small village here at some point. A very interesting Neolithic building. The actual build is genius for being 2000years old. It is a great location, there is enough of the structure to make it interesting, you can get inside it, there is a storyboard as well. There is plenty of parking across the road. The layout of the building is very much still evident, with the guard post being particularly interesting. There are also stairs at the back of the broch which are accessible and allow you to climb to the top of the broch, which is good fun. Fascinating ancient historical building.

Full of interesting buildings set in wonderful woods and parkland. It is great to discover the buildings in a setting that is so similar to how they were when originally built. A good place to start is the schoolhouse which has dress up and Victorian toys for kids - the other must visit place if you have kids who watch 'horrible histories' is the iron age house - in fact the children show, Horrible Histories does a huge amount of filming here so you'll be able to see a lot of recognisable locations around the site. Excellent place to go for a long walk and to learn about historic buildings. Fantastic to wander around and the Iron Age house is particularly interesting. There is lots to see and do, plenty of space to run around. Fantastic day out, beautiful area with lots of history and knowledge. A great place to walk around and a great place for the kids to learn something. They have crafts people all behaving as if it was the Elizabethan era.  Plenty of free parking.
