The broch is absolutely gorgeous. Easily accessible from the main road at the top of the hill and there is a car park. As ruin, there is not much left, it’s impressive that a structure of over 2,000 years is still there. Climb to the top and check out the amazing construction of the broch. Nice view and some imagination you visualise how it must have been. Extremely well kept, excellent information boards and brilliant view.

The castle is a beautiful but completely damaged medieval castle which was built in the late eleventh or early twelfth century. Fantastic castle even though it it's a ruin is extensive and you can go to the top and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Great little museum, which tells an important story. This is a wonderful place telling the truth about what actually happened during Bloody Sunday and the years of struggle that these brave working-class families had to endure, to gain some kind of justice from the British establishment.

One of the most historic and scenically beautiful castles in Scotland. The castle was built about 1200. The castle was a fortress and a state prison during its 450 years history. The display inside is excellent and the castle is picturesque, but the real fun here is that you can go down a mine dug in the mid-16th century as part of the siege efforts against the castle. The castle has lots of areas to explore, tunnels and ruins. The views of the coast are spectacular from here.

This lakes and gardens, described as the finest woodland gardens in England, were first planted in 1801. This is a very beautiful garden with amazing lakes and trees. Absolutely stunning place to visit. Beautiful views from anywhere in the park, lakes are very well stocked with huge fish. See the rare colony of wallabies and catch sight of the deer roaming free. 

This castle is built in the round. It was erected at the end of the 13th century as a sort of country seat for its mediaeval owners. Edward, the Black Prince came here at least twice. The castle was built between 1560 and 1574. One of Scotland's most well-preserved and striking fortified towers, this is a massive, imposing fortification that seems almost comically out of place in such a small, remote island. The stonework is incredible: thick impenetrable walls peppered with gun loops, beautiful spiral staircases and vaulted interiors. Thick masonry wall and tiny gunshot -like windows, 71 in total. A roadside attraction as you enter the village. You can climb down. A beautiful and tranquil place to explore. This is very picturesque, beautiful place to walk and view. It is an amazing location and great for photography.

This place was founded by King Henry VIII. It is one of the first and most thoroughly equipped coastal fortresses. And quite a few of those castles were built along the shore. It is a Tudor fortress, set up so that cannon can be deployed wherever such weapons might be needed. You can walk and clamber through and around the entire building. You can visit the storerooms.  The castle itself stands as a sophisticated and impressive example of a late 1500s tower house. The castle was infamous for notorious oppression for this area. The noblemen rule was a popular one. He was arrested in 1609 and executed along with his son Robert in Edinburgh in 1615.

This is one of the most famous lighthouses in Scotland. Nice destination. The scenery here is stunning. Very busy single-track roads to get there. Arrive early. Stunning views on the walk from the car park and amazing views from the lighthouse. Amazing panoramic view. Feels like you’re standing on the edge of the earth. The largest cliff is so tall it’s hard to put into words. Stone columns are stunning. Sunsets are amazing. This spectacular place is most definitely worth a visit. 

Fascinating and very well-preserved fortified house built in 1598. The castle is a splendid example of tower house architecture. Torches provided to explore the vaults. It has good access to the site and different areas of the building. Free admission.

The history of this fortress includes the incarceration of George Fox. Fox, who founded the Quakers was imprisoned here in 1656. Nowadays you can stretch out, kick back, enjoy your picnic and revel in the lovely verdant surroundings and the picturesque, breath-taking valley below. The building, resting on a hillock, stands proud and tall. Its centrepiece is an uncommon keep, made up of around tower, built during the 13th century and surrounding the shell keep, one that was made earlier. You can clamber up a staircase inside the two shells to the top of the tower and the top of the hill. It's worth it for the stunning view.  

The Castle is stunning. Access to main castle is by tour only, lasting approximately one hour. The guardroom, kitchens, gift shop and cafe are open for free. The tour is very interesting and covers the history of the Castle and the family from the 1500s to the present. Great educational tour of the rooms and a little bit of exploration around the gardens. Plenty for the kids to do, with a nice playground for children. 

The construction of this fortress was completed in 1545, according to the instructions of King Henry VIII. And it follows the ‘clover leaf’ design. Lucky for some. The fortress made up part of the King’s Device plan. King Henry wanted to prevent or to protect his land against invasion from France and the Holly Roman Empire. The fortifications were bolstered with cannon and gun posts. The building also happens to stand in a lovely part of the land, by the coast, overlooking the waves. It has also been reported to contain be the most elaborate décor of all of the castles built by Henry.  

The museum provides an excellent insight into the history of Island life with a mix of traditional exhibits and multimedia. The museum includes a lot of personal stories which help bring the history to life. The attention to detail on these figures is incredible considering the materials used and the tools available to the artists that created them. Well worth a visit, even if it is just to see these alone. Explore the surrounding beautiful Scottish Island. Entrance is free and there is plenty to see.

Robert de Vieuxpont built this fortress in the early 13th Century. De Vieuxpont had lived a busy life as a landowner and administrator in France – especially in Rouen – and in Britain. He was a supporter and colleague of King John. John Brought de Vieuxpont to England in 1203. The twirling staircase and the corridors and alleyways and the edifice itself are full of history. They’re also in a lovely part of the world, beside a river whose banks are made for quiet moments or family games or lunches or historical exploration or anything that a visitor may want.   

The castle is now a historic, accredited museum and an award-winning events venue. This is a lovely place to visit having displays of Japanese Samurai Armour and associated artefacts, along with many items relating to the Jacobean era and Scottish unrest. The history of the collections and how they were acquired is really interesting.  A lovely garden for picnic. If you enjoy learning about history, then this will definitely make great day out.

Beautiful castle. Amazing grounds and gardens. The castle has had a diverse history over 700 years. Stunning gardens which can be explored at a leisurely pace before or after you explore the castle which has existed in some form since 1269. This are many paintings, weapons, and other artifacts from hundreds of years of use. The weapon display includes shields and muskets which were used at the battle of Culloden. Great views of the mountains and nice little wooded areas with deer. 

One of England’s most wonderfully located fortresses. This Castle which is over 600 years old. There are spectacular views of the estuary and the sea. This is an incredible family day out. This castle was used in the Civil War and the Second World War. There have been renovations, the Victorian 'Old Battery', which presents heavy guns, guardrooms and many passages to explore. You may take a river boat trip up to the castle, which will park you a minute away from the castle’s entrance. Spend the afternoon in riverside tea room for snacks and beverages. Stroll down the coastal and woodland walks by the castle where there are wildlife and birds to observe. 

A very interesting building with a lot of history. An absolutely stunning cathedral. Impressive architecture inside and out, with almost 400 years of history within these walls and wonderful acoustics. Open to the public, and has a small museum attached to it, with loads of information and artefacts on display. 

A beautiful park. This is a simply stunning location. The walkway is really well laid out and there are plenty of areas for the kids to explore. Great walk along the river and through the woods. The scenery by the river is beautiful, with free parking and picnic facilities. 

This is a truly stunning beach with plenty of golden sand to walk along. The sea and waves are beautiful and the sun on the water is amazing. Nice and clean, litter free beach which seems to stretch for miles. Lifeboat huts and public free toilets at the coastguard station available. Very picturesque town with cafes and shops nearby. 

Henry VII built this fortress. It was one of the most advanced artillery fortresses in England. Cannons were mounted here.  Used as an air base for seaplanes during the World War. And it was deliberately set at one extreme end of a coastal spit, closest to the ocean, plenty of things to see and do. The castle is split into two areas, one for the history of the war and the other for the monarchy. Amazing panoramic views from the top of the castle. Very informative and plenty to see. You can either walk about a mile across the beach to reach the castle or pay to take the boat.

The short walk from the car park is well worth it as you reach the top of the hill and catch your first glimpse you could actually think you were in the Caribbean the white sand and clear water is amazing and you actually have to remind yourself where you are. The beach itself is beautiful. Flowers in blooms in spring, birds and seals around.  Take a picnic and enjoy.

Wonderful place. UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are no permanent residents on this island. However, the main island  is occupied all year round by the people who work on the military base, now almost entirely a civilian workforce. The National Trust for Scotland staff are resident on the island from April to September every year.

This is a Victorian style castle. The castle is well worth a visit. It was built in the 14th century. With medieval origins it was substantially improved in the sixteenth century. Well-preserved with an interesting history. Beautiful walled garden with an interesting collection of fruit, vegetables and many beautiful flowers.

The waterfall is amazing to see and there's a lovely, not too difficult walk to get to it with good views at the top. Not suitable for young children.

An amazing trail and amazing views. Beautiful place but dangerous path especially during misty and rainy days. You will definitely enjoy the scenery and the breath-taking views! Most spectacular landscape and surrounding areas. This is very beautiful and worth the visit. Some stunning scenery here, but make sure you bring hiking shoes. A really long trail through the mountains. Views are astonishing from the beginning of it, so you can walk as much as you can. Highly recommended for a  hike.

Beautiful little bay. Walk to the beach along a lane and the views are worth it, because this is a fantastic landscape, with rocks, falls, sand, beautiful waves and not so populated. Climb over the rocks to reach the waterfall and enjoy it.  This a beautiful beach of stones and sand. There is parking nearby.

This is a small Sandy beach area with a great view. Nice black sand beach. The dinosaur footprints are easy to see and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a busy beach. Free on-street parking.

A beautiful park that you can enjoy for free. A scenic forest drive and giant lair. You can walk all the way to the forest or drive most of the way, while enjoying gorgeous views. Kids will really enjoy the forest and its playground. This spot conveniently has free parking.

The castle was completed around 1845 and beautifully situated by the sea.  As you approach it looks very much like a fairy-tale castle or a French Chateau. It is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens where there are regular flying displays of Birds of Prey which are spectacular to watch. Lots of rooms full of memorabilia open to public. Has a warm family home feel, because of the precious items. Beautiful interiors with an art collection and high-class craftsmanship. There is a falconry display on the lawn around midday.  Make sure to visit the museum down in the garden full of shocking but interesting. You’ll discover much about the history. You can walk to the shore and look at the castle from there as well and also go in to see the castle's garden. 

This is a fantastic pebble beach. The beach has a natural curve and nice breeze/wind depending which season you visit.   Great for wetsuit swimming, fishing and a nice little shore dive for scuba divers. Many visitors build artistic stacks of these stones along the Beach. The wildlife is amazing. You can see otters, seals cormorants and gannets.

Beautiful place for a quick hike. The view from the top is stunning, you can see all around! The climb is perfectly manageable. It's a moderate trail, with some stairs to the top, which are worth it. 

The castle is the last great private stronghold built in Scotland. The castle was built around 1530. This is unusual artillery fortification.  Enjoy inside the castle and the grounds. An interesting Castle ruin with unique design elements. This is a very interesting castle with various unusual features to note. Absolutely beautiful castle on a quite impressive cliff above a river. There are so many trees that you won’t even realize you're standing on a cliff. 

One of the nicest places to visit; white sand, cool water and breath-taking views. Beautiful beach with soft sand, which you can drive on. Very picturesque and great for a relaxing walk. A perfect place for a barbecue and family fun, it’s a must-visit. Views both towards the sea and the high cliffs behind are amazing.

This iconic castle is one of Scotland’s most popular attractions. 1,000 years of history. Located at a very beautiful place, this castle is one of the most stunning castles in the UK. The history of this castle is very interesting. The Visitors Centre has a wonderful movie of the history of the castle and there are many artefacts found during excavations on display. 

Amazing old castle ruins. Stunning sea views over the steep high cliffside. It is worth the effort to come and see this ruinous castle. The castle is sign posted and after about a mile you will find the car park. There is no charge for the castle or the car park. The coastline here is dramatic. The castle itself is ruinous and you do wonder how on earth it was built in this place in the 1160's.

 Very interesting and brilliantly laid out museum/visitors centre. Audio guides available and set in beautiful gardens with breath-taking views. The skeleton of the castle shows how the enemy leaves a castle after looting it.  Magnificent museum. Well laid out with some amazing artefacts. A real view of history, especially Jacobite history and relics. Well worth a visit.

There are kayaking trips and courses on the isle. A fantastic experience, the location is amazing, the quality of equipment is very high and the instruction is superb. The whole experience is informative and very enjoyable. Explore plenty of seals up close. 

Lovely sandy beach with easily accessible car park. The colour of the sea is beautiful, clean beach, sheltered, crystal clear water. Amazing rocks to climb on and when you are up high, there are great views and plenty of beautiful rock pools to explore. Beautiful camp site with some lovely walks and views.  Excellent campsite with superb facilities and 100 yards from silver sand. Wild deer on the hills. 

The park has great facilities and a range of different animals to look at. Come face to face with some of the world’s most endangered animals. Perfect place for kids with lots for them to do. Get up close to the animals in the large walkthroughs. Really lovely wildlife park where you can walk through the penguin, wallaby & lemur enclosures.

An amazing canal. Wonderful Place to have a walk and break away from the hustle and bustle of life. Most of it is easily accessible for walking or cycling as it passes through spectacular scenery and historic towns. Lots of wildlife to spot and places to explore along the way. A beautiful and peaceful place for a break.

The museum is extremely interesting from a point of view of social history. There are also very good exhibits along with people dressed and acting on the times of the past. An example of this was the women's Suffragette Movement which was enacted on the streets and culminated with a debate in the town hall. Loads of buildings to explore and also has free old-fashioned trams and buses to ride to the different parts of the museum. Perhaps you need four full days to explore everything there. Fascinating glimpse into the history of the local area, ticket options are all for an annual, unlimited pass which is great value if you're local or can visit regularly. A very nice and historical place.  There are many examples of social interaction within the museum and it is excellent. Plenty of parking, easy access and options to walk around or use period buses and trams. It is educational for all ages. Great for families, or just an interesting day out

The Mills are the finest surviving and best-preserved example of cotton mill. This mill was built in 1783. Visit the working textile museum or try some retail therapy in shopping village.

At 54m wide and 20m high, this is an attractive looking sculpture built in 1998. You must visit this place when it's sunny bright day because the photos will look much more appealing. In short, a simple and lovely place to visit with family and friends on weekend. It is a nice place to visit with a park situated along the statue. The scenery around is also quite beautiful.

This is an underground wonderland of stalactites, stalagmites, rocks, minerals and fossils. A rare form of fluorite with beautiful colours. Popular as an ornamental stone and mined for 300 years. The guided tour takes you deeper underground to see multi coloured flowstone adoring the walls of Aladdin’s cave. See website for details and special events.

 A prehistoric tomb hollowed out from a massive block of sandstone. It has attracted curiosity for centuries. The stone is classed as a Neolithic tomb, solely on the basis of its form and design. A narrow passage leading to two small cells. Visitors can enter the tomb. Archaeologists believe it was carved between 3500 and 2500 BC.

The UK’s largest commercial art, craft and design gallery. The exhibits are varied and interesting. The diversity of exhibits should appeal to everyone. Its exhibitions change quarterly and represent the work of around 250 artists each season. Usually there are artists from all corners of the UK.

Such an amazing place, standing where people stood 5000 years ago. Neolithic chambered tomb that you can actually go inside if you're prepared to crawl on your hands and knees or scoot along on a little trolley. The Tomb is situated overlooking spectacular cliffs. The actual tomb is about 20 minutes’ walk from the visitor centre. The visitor centre has an interesting talk about the tomb and how it was uncovered and the artefacts and remains found at the site. If you like history, then you won't regret coming along to see this amazing experience going back in time. The surroundings are absolutely stunning. Cliff views are excellent. The sites can be accessed on foot via a scenic walk offering views of coastline cliffs. A very good place to learn and see archaeological remains. There is a little museum of some finds from the tomb. Enjoy Beautiful coastal walk on way back to centre after visiting the tomb itself. Fantastic Neolithic and bronze age sites.

A staggeringly beautiful beach. White sands and blue sea. Absolutely stunning beach and for the more adventurous there is a small zip wire going across on the coastal path. Nice place for kids to play and make many sand castles as the waves gently lap onto the beach. This is an absolutely gorgeous beach. There are lot of places to park along this stretch.

This is a beautiful bay. Bounded by towering 200m cliffs and steep heathery hills. A fine sand and boulder strewn beach. 

Take a spectacular cable car ride into the village in the sky. Each of the 12 cars are permanently attached to the cable by huge metal bolts. The cable itself is 1,136 metres long. From bottom to top, you travel 169 metres upwards. fantastic views of the valley during the trip and from the heights. Stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Excellent place to spend a day with kids.Gorgeous area where you can eat, drink, have an ice cream, let the children play in the grounds, admire the views of the park, climb the tower to the top and visit the green parks.

A great place to visit for a day with the family.  The place is immaculate.  A great golf range which is kept in great order and run by lovely people. They allow all ages and offer club hire and special offers which are on their website to see.  An excellent place to go whether you are a golfer or not and no matter how good a golfer you are.

The view from the top of the tower with the rolling timeline was an excellent suggestion to start the visit. The museum is well split up, and brilliantly informative. Here is an interesting museum on site as well as the exposed Roman Fort area. A 35m high viewing tower gives great views over the site and surrounding area. The viewing tower is especially great as you can see the entire layout of the fort as it is now and would be both in Roman and shipbuilding (1800's) times, plus a good view of the river.

Interesting modern art pieces and free entry make this a great tourist attraction.

This beach is ideal for families, with a large car park, picnic areas and waymarked paths to the beach. The beach is perfect for exploring and spotting red squirrels amongst the winding trails of the coastal pinewoods, which lead you down to the dramatic dunes and the beach beyond. Such a beautiful walk and different ways you can go and all lead to the sand dunes and beach. It is extremely popular in the summer and even in the winter during school holidays.

The Spa Lodges are simply incredible, quite spacious, perfect for families. Excellent place to stay. The lodge cabin is amazing and warm and peaceful. There is a lovely view of the hill in the background. Good location, close to the reservoir and for exploring the local area. It is worth the money what you pay and this place if you want a romantic or even a short brake weekend. Lovely area for scenic walks.  Absolutely brilliant place to stay everything you need in your log cabin is provided for you.

There is plenty of space for the children to explore everything about the writer. A good combination of static information and interactive exhibits. You get to understand more about the man behind the books. He really was quite special. This place is great for kids and only ever gets better as they learn the stories. Perfect place to go on a school trip.

This is very a popular attraction. It attracts over one million visitors a year. The park is a fun day out for the whole family with loads of activities to keep the children busy, including the play centre with high ropes, paddling pool, skate park, crazy golf and donkey rides. The park is kept very clean and the events that happen in the area are amazing.

If you like visiting antique shops, craft shops and museums this will really interest you. It was one of the first mills that inspired the mass production of cotton products. The women and children worked in the mill. On the top of the house there is a knitting machine which the men operated to create textiles and garments from the cotton spun in the mill. Explore how a mill works and history about the place. The story of the place is really interesting and the guides will take you round. Parking is plentiful here.

This is an amazing historical place. Great place to see a Roman Fort. There are loads of fort foundations here to see and a brilliant remains of a bath house, you can walk round and get up really close. Beautifully kept grounds sympathetically to the rural surrounding landscape. You can see the ruins of all four main gates and barracks as well as the heart of the fort. A nice little gift shop and information centre. The museum is laid out in an interesting and informative way showing the artefacts and explaining about them.  This is suitable for all ages. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely incredible place - and truly unique. It is just like stepping into a surrealist painting or else being in a strange dream. Wide, sandy and gently sloping beach scattered with famous 'human' sculptures from Anthony Gormley. The main attraction here is to see Antony Gormley's Another Place, a permanent installation of 100 cast iron men that spans the entire beach and into the sea as well.

White sands that stretch for miles. This is such a beautiful spot to see birds, horse flies, listen to the waves and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The beaches are so incredibly peaceful, and the water is turquoise and very clear.  Enjoy this lovely wide  beach. 

The sand here is soft and white. This bay is clean, quiet and beautiful, with a rocky inlet and a big sandy shore.  A spectacular waterfall close to the beach. These dramatic 15 metre falls are a short walk from the road. The hills are breath-taking. 

A natural wonder. This is a two-million-year-old natural limestone cave. Explore with expert guides these vast, beautifully illuminated rock sculpted galleries and marvel at the variety of crystal stalactites and stalagmites renowned as the finest underground scenery in the UK. At the end of 1998 a survey took place to discover exactly how far the cave system stretches beyond the existing show cave. An amazing little museum stacked full of toys and games from a range of decades. It doesn't matter how old you are, there is something to suit any age, and there are some items from the modern day on display too. Fantastic museum of transistor, television and toys, with literally thousands of items to take you back to your childhood. There are models dressed in various outfits from the TV and films.

This is one of the most opulent museums in London, and its small scale makes it easy enough to explore thoroughly in an afternoon.

This is a science and local history museum. The Museum is a great place to take families, lots of things to do and see. The science area is particularly interesting with lots of buttons to press. The military exhibits are really nice and interesting.  A good range of exhibitions with plenty to keep kids interested. Free entry.  

Discover 900 years history. A really interesting place with many things to find and discover. The museum is fascinating as it spans a vast period in the Priory's history, well worth looking at. Very informative priory. Allows you to see how the charitable trust keeps up the good work on site. There are plenty of relics to see on site that have been found here. The walled gardens about a 10-minute walk from the priory is beautiful and one of the biggest walled gardens. The walled gardens are a great experience and well maintained.

The museum has more than 1,500 shoes from the Roman era to modern the day. The museum also tells the story of Clarks from it’s beginning in the early 19th century. There are four galleries which showcase the development of the footwear industry in street and items on display include shoemaking machinery and tools, advertising materials and hundreds of shoes. A selection of footwear from around the world, a beautiful collection of Georgian and Victorian shoes. Highlights of the museum include the last of those made for Princess Diana’s wedding, a replica of the shoes worn by the Queen when she married Prince Philip, and a 1923 Perugia ladies gold, black and silver bar shoe.

There is plenty of history, nicely displayed, plus mock-ups of historical rooms. The museum itself is well laid out and informative. A excellent view into rural life. Enjoyable for both adults and children. Nicely laid out museum with much more than a collection of old tools. The horse sculpture made from scrap iron is fantastic. A lovely place to visit, with plenty to see.

You can go on an old fashioned tram ride which takes you up to a little village which you can go in and view all the houses from different eras and it has a mine experience where you go down a mine and see the conditions the miners had to go through. The arts centre is a multi-venue arts complex. Nice intimate venue offering decent views of the stage from all angles.  Especially for many of the big-name comedians who perform here. Also used for University graduation ceremonies. Excellent views wherever you sit and great sound. The art centre is a place where all sorts of performances take place, from music to drama. The campus is massive and makes a great venue. It attracts around 300,000 visitors a year to over 3,000 individual events. The right size for music concert. A vibrant place of culture. With the university campus this is an excellent example of how education and business can go hand in hand. Ample free parking.

A splendid museum of pumping and steam. The museum is chock-a-block full of steam engines of varying sizes and applications. A large number of restored engines can be seen in action on Steaming Days. If you like steam engines and pumps you'll love it. It was built in 1830. There is a narrow gauge railway too, which on steaming days will take you from the car park to the main part of the site. 

This free museum is small but full of marvellous surprises, archive and exhibition centre tells the fascinating story of 3000 years of history of surrounding area.  A fascinating journey through time takes visitor from the prehistoric period up to the era of nuclear fission. Discover a 4000-year-old Bronze Age burial urn, mummified baby crocodiles and the 110-year-old piece of chocolate.

Find out about life during the Roman military occupation and visit the period house, with rooms from the 17th century to the 1920’s. The museum's collection of artefacts are well displayed with well written descriptions. Most were found from the site of a major Roman fort. There is an amazing collection of Roman tomb stones which had been used in the later construction of the city walls and consequently re-discovered. These Roman tombstones really bring the people they were dedicated to back to life with little snippets of their lives written in stone. 

Great little museum with plenty of local history. A modern military museum providing a wonderful interactive visitor experience for all ages. There are 7 galleries to explore and many activities to keep you busy. Formed in 1942 to meet the demands of the Second World War. 

This historic building was built in the mid-18th century. Stunning place with lots of history behind. The change of guards has a long story in British History and it is worth to it. Wonderful traditions by dedicated services. Fantastic museum full of real history. A very nice place to visit and learn about the history of the guards and see them caring for the horses through a glass display. Great place for kids as well as adults. 

Spectacular museum that looks like a real cave. They have some beautiful stones, gems and fossils and the information surrounding them is interesting and insightful. Excellent range of fossils and crystals etc. The biggest emerald in Europe is held here, along with other rarities. Housed in an old church. Explore the display of trilobites and some of the bismuth formations. They also have a replica of the biggest gold nugget ever found, reputed to weigh over 70kg.  The car park is free and it's easy to find, at the side of the road.

Brilliant museum with something for everyone. Local history and interesting changing exhibitions. The building dates back to the 13th century. Huge collection ranging from prehistoric times to last century plus a wonderful temporary exhibition of works. Very informative with lots of interesting artefacts. This is an excellent museum with first class exhibitions. The archaeology exhibition is outstanding and is worth a whole day visit to appreciate it.

This is an excellent place to visit. Where Lions roam. Tigers stalk. Immerse yourself in the animal kingdom. There is varied entertainment for people of all ages. The safari is brilliant and easy to navigate round. The grand manor house is absolutely beautiful and such a lovely place to walk around and see inside. It's an amazing place to see, with wonderful lights in the garden that light up the night with a stunning display. Enjoy feeding the sea lions while on a cruise in the boat. There are great interactions with animals, feeding, watching and driving past them. If you are planning to drive around the park be aware that the monkeys may climb on it. Absolutely amazing, all the animals are out and about while driving around. It is very tough to see everything in one visit, so a two-day visit is recommended. One of the most unique experiences the UK has to offer. Definitely worth the visit.

Beautiful, historic buildings. What a great little museum that truly shows the history of this area and show cases a period lost in history. Really gives you a sense of what it was like to live in a croft house in centuries past. Be sure to walk down to the abandoned mill; it's neat, and the landscape is beautiful. On entering there is a fire in the grate, and you are greeted with the earthy smell of burning peat, making it very warm and cosy. A look back in time of how people used to live and work. Your chance to visit history and see how life used to be.

Hidden away on the high street is an absolute gem of a museum. Showcasing many products and items from days gone by, as well as local history photographs and information. There is no entrance fee. 

This ship is an interesting relic of bygone maritime industry. It is fairly well preserved, and very interesting to explore. You can climb ladders and go above or below deck. The vessel is more than a hundred years old. A place with wonderful and fascinating history of a trading ship plying its trade around the world. Lots to see from the relative luxury of the officers cabin to the bare essentials of the crew area. This historic sailing ship is very enjoyable and gives you a good idea of what life onboard was like and the history of the ship and shipbuilding. This is a wonderful place for individuals of all ages.

Interesting museum on local history. Excellent collection of items from prehistoric times until the modern day. Set within the old castle at the centre of town, where it has been since the 19th century. There is a lot of local information. History on The Duke of Wellington who fought in the Zulu wars. Lots of uniforms and weapons on display and up to date information of present regiments. There is also an art gallery showing works from a local artist. Good variety of displays to keep you looking for a good amount of time. Fantastic place to take the kids. The museum itself is well laid out and good for all ages. Entrance is free.

The museum introduces you to Mildred, Henrietta and Harriet, three eccentric tour guides who will bring to life a series of museum artefacts through words and movement. This museum has been created in collaboration with writer Ann Selby. It will awaken everyone’s curiosity and desire to explore the nooks and crannies of the museum space.

Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere at this ruined medieval abbey. See original paint work and hear the wonderful echoes of your voices in the medieval chapter house. The 12th century abbey was home to a community of Cistercian monks for 400 years. Beautiful abbey in a lovely location. A great ruin to have a look around and imagine what it would have been like back then.

Discover one of Scotland’s most enigmatic castles. It was built in the late 1200s or early 1300s and is situated on a triangular spur of land, surrounded by steep drops to an artificial loch. An almost unknown place, hidden in the countryside, but stunning and absolutely well kept. There is a woodland walk to the right of the castle which loops anti-clockwise around the loch through some fields and takes you back onto the road just down from the entrance gate. The nature walk around the castle grounds is wonderful and offers lots of great views of the castle from different angles.

A brilliant day out. Ride all day on the railway, and the explore the little museum. There are plenty of interactive experiences for the little ones. The railway is an old converted industrial steam train and hauls a carefully restored set of carriages. Experience the sights, sounds and smells of old-fashioned train travel. Such a rare opportunity to view cave carvings. The carvings in the caves can be difficult to see but take a torch. Some of the caves still have the original cave carvings. A short walk from the parking area and a nice walk by the sea. Lovely place to go exploring and great views of the sea. There is a ruin of a castle to explore nearby too. 

Beautiful pink sandy beaches. There are several separate beaches here with some creative parking to get next to them, so you can escape from the crowds here easily. A beautiful wide beach with a very long gentle slope out to sea. Perfect for paddling and for children to play in. The beach is wide and deep, perfect for a whole day’s fun. The beach is quite compact at high tide, but you can still enjoy the amazing views. This is a stunning beach with a clear, clean sea and when the tide is out.

The castle is a two-storey ruined tower house. Great views over the bay. The castle now has a viewing platform to allow you to climb to the top. Once there the view is stunning over the bay. The castle was built in the 14th century. It's very peaceful and there are educational plaques along the way. They have installed a metal stairway and landing inside of the castle, which allows visitors to have a better view of the incredible landscape around the castle.

This is really nice part of the coastline. White sandy beach, turquoise sea and sand dunes. Perfect for walks and watch sand martins, gannets, golden eagle, black cows on the beach. 

The trains give a scenic 3-mile return trip along the side of historic lake. The train is a nice for the kids to enjoy. Really nice place to go for a walk. Plenty of parking. Visit the website for more information.

What a spot. There is a fantastic lighthouse and stunning, gorgeous, magnificent coastal scenery. This is a great place to stay, the lighthouse was very cosy and in a stunning area. The walks around the light house are great. The cliffs are spectacular, and the coastal walks are very easy.    Panoramic views and a nice coastal path to follow on top of the cliffs.  The lighthouse is fenced off and signposted as private.  Breath-taking scenery overlooking the ocean. Images of waves crashing against the rocks will stay for a long time. Great place to see nature. Easy, accessible car park. 

There are over seven miles of sandy beach for walking/playing on.There is a beautiful beach and lovely scenery all around. Great family run park, right on beach, very quiet, super restaurant and bar. Beautiful Holiday Park, great facilities.

This unusual structure, which was built in 1761 by an unknown architect as a garden retreat. Views from the walled garden and orchard. Explore the surrounding woodland and ponds, which teem with wildlife.

This one of the most perfectly preserved castles in Scotland. Climb the tower house -find a great hall and a prison. Explore the mysterious chambers. The castle was built in the late 1300s. Everything in the castle has been left as it was, when it was generously gifted to the trust in 1996. You see the magnificent stairs the Queen Mother still used on each visit. Take a mountain bike be quicker, the path is good, the beach is clean. This beach is no secret, there are many visitors so don't expect to be alone out there. There are dunes, cliffs, stacks, caves, a loch right beside it. The remoteness makes it all the more special.

Beautiful little bay. Walk to the beach along a lane and the views are worth it, because this is a fantastic landscape, with rocks, falls, sand, beautiful waves and not so populated. Climb over the rocks to reach the waterfall and enjoy it. This a beautiful beach of stones and sand.There is parking nearby.

Explore an ancient burial place dating back over 5,000 years. Discovered here at least 29 skeletons were found inside the cairn during the excavations in 1934, with 17 skulls arranged side by side. It has a good parking space and the cairn is well signposted from the road and throughout the walk. The views are amazing as you approach the cairn. Free admission.

This park is a large park and one of the biggest open spaces in London. A lovely house and garden to explore. The house originally built in 1576. The building and the gardens are very picturesque. The main area in front of the house is nice to relax in during the summer and there is plenty of space for kids to run around.

This is a lovely long sweeping white sandy beach. The sandy beach has many different varieties of shells. Beautiful scenic camp site. The beach is huge and beautiful.

The park is a stately home with gardens. The Palladian house was built in 1704. This is largely historic, the decoration is exquisite and gives the impression that the house is still inhabited by the family. The park is amazing, in particular that part between walls where you walk amongst trees, flowers and pheasants. The park is out of this world, so beautiful. You can see how Jane Austen fell in love with this place.

This is a beach that does not disappoint. Beautiful beach and brilliant rock pools. This is a great beach for children to play on and if you are lucky you might even see the bottlenose dolphins from the beach.  Enjoy a pleasant walk along the beach with the sights and sounds of nature. The sand is clean and soft and the water is very clear. A very peaceful and calming place to spend time. Recommend to anyone absolutely fabulous place with good facilities.

This Park a truly unique and immersive animal experience. Amazing animal, walkthroughs allow you to come face to face with exotic and endangered animals. Plenty of different animals. It's a great place for kids. Parking is free.  

Beautiful secluded beach. You can reach it by road. It's a short five-minute walk from the road through fields. Gorgeous and clean with fantastic rock formations. Great views to the islands. A lovely sheltered sandy beach. 

One of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland. Amazing beach with clear, white sand and impressive dunes. Stunning long beach, great for family. Lovely white sand, lots of shells to collect and driftwood. Walk a bit further on you'll find rock pools. Gets quite busy on a nice day. Beautiful beach with plenty of parking nearby. 

This lighthouse was built in 1836. A fantastic lighthouse with lots of history. Views are simply amazing. The tour of the lighthouse is very informative and you get to see all the floors inside, all the way to the top. It's a 15-minute walk from the car park along the coastal path to get to the lighthouse. Surrounding views are breath taking.

Great beach with plenty to do nearby such as picnics, ice cream, you can BBQ and visit the arcade. The beach is generally kept clean and attracts many people on a hot day. Beautiful views. Lovely place with free parking along the front, lots of things for kids to do. There is also a foot shower in case one need to wash of the sand after visiting the beach. This is a sandy beach. 

A great place to go and have fun. Good modern karts, which provide a thrilling action-packed shooting game designed for kids over aged 8 and over. Fabulous activity for adults alike. Excellent value for money. 

Early Christian sculptured stone. Lovely old little church with a little exhibition of the stones.There is a viewing case with some very old stones and an explanation.

Well maintained gardens and parks. A lovely railway track around the grounds. There is plenty to see, with a large beautiful garden which is full of various Birds and Animals (rhinos, giraffes etc). This is a wonderful place to walk, enjoying the beautiful landscape, gardens, fountains. Kids will love as there are many activities to do and explore the wonders of nature. A Great and fantastic place to visit with plenty of parking space. 

The castle site on a rock in the bay to see the spectacular views. It was built in the 1400s. Take a boat ride across the island to get there and back.There are no official tours but you can find your way around quite easily and most things are pretty self-explanatory. Very well exhibited. This is a sandy beach. The beach itself is a large expanse of golden sand.  Explore the beautiful natural arch. There is parking nearby and a huge play area for kids. Nice dunes, clean bright sand and stunningly clear water. Lovely beach wherever the tide is. There's plenty of wildlife in the area too. Excellent beach for surfing. 

The castle was completed around 1845 and beautifully situated by the sea.  As you approach it looks very much like a fairy-tale castle or a French Chateau. It is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens where there are regular flying displays of Birds of Prey which are spectacular to watch. Lots of rooms full of memorabilia open to public. Has a warm family home feel because of personal information and precious items. Beautiful interiors with an art collection and high-class craftsmanship. There is a falconry display on the lawn around midday.  Make sure to visit the museum down in the garden full of shocking but interesting. You’ll discover much about the history. You can walk to the shore and look at the castle from there as well and also go in to see the castle's garden. 

An actual working barrack so you are likely to see military personnel around. Great little chapel with lots of history, at the end of Fort. Amazing museum and the views from up the walls are spectacular. Lots of videos & things of interest. The museum is packed full with interesting information and the displays are fantastic. Fascinating place, huge Georgian fort built. Very well worth a visit. It can take quite a while to walk around and see other parts so make sure you allocate at least 2-3 hours. The place is big, you can explore outside and walk on the ramparts, wander around buildings and also see inside some of the buildings.

More than 4,000 years of human settlement here. Neolithic people firs settled at this site around 2700 BC. The location is beautiful, with stunning sea views. The setting is stunning and it is easy to see why our ancestors settled here through the ages. From the Stone Age, to Bronze Age, to Iron Age, Pictish, Viking and Middle Ages. All in one place. The grounds are well laid out and there is plenty of information for you to absorb. There is plenty of parking. We recommend getting the audio guides as it is very helpful.

 It consists of about 200 stones erected in more than 22 rows on hillside. They were erected about 4,000 years ago. Absolutely breath-taking setting for this mysterious ancient hill of stones. Follow the circular path around to examine the site. Information boards suggesting possible reasons behind the stone arrangements. Large arrangements of stone rows like this are very rare. Explore and enjoy this historical landmark. 

This is a historic house museum and said to be the oldest house in Glasgow and of medieval origin. It was built in 1471. The architecture and the woodwork are worth giving attention. Explore the history of the struggle to preserve this historically very important home. The museum tells you a lot about Glasgow and the people who helped shape it. The gardens are also very nice and set up like one of the uses of gardens centuries ago, as a place to go herbs with medicinal properties. This is a great place to visit.

A fascinating museum with a very eclectic mix of fossils and local history.  A lot of truly interesting material to learn about the area and its geological formation, past local history. Also, some great finds in their shop: jewellery, artisan goods, crafts, books. This place is packed with things to see. So much to see from prehistoric to more modern times. A very scenic location with beautifully arranged and maintained.

This is an excellent museum on many levels. This castle is a Grade 1 listed 16th century. The houses of local history collections, archives and art exhibitions. 

A beautiful and very special location.  There are a few marker boards around the site giving you an idea of the history of the cairns which was very helpful. originally was built 5,000 years ago. The cairns have gates by which you can enter the cairns. Excellent Cairns with an incredible story. What a little archaeological gem really beautiful, free and set in a landscape that really gives you the feeling of prehistory and the people who came before. Amazing historical site and highly recommend a visit. Great for exploring. 

This temple was built between 4,000 and 5,000 years ago. It comprises a wall of large stone boulders, weighing up to 300kg. The design of the temple is very similar to Neolithic houses and burial cairns. The ‘temple’ itself is pleasingly maintained and preserved with some interesting information boards close by.

This beach has one of the most exceptional natural environments in the country. Lovely clean beach, with miles of beautiful secluded sand dunes, great for children. The beach is wide flat sands and well laid out. Enjoy endless expanse of beach. Take a walk along the oldest iron pier in the country where at the end you will see nothing but coastal views for miles. This is an amazing stretch of sandy beach.  A museum dedicated to the exploration relating to the brochs. Excellent information about many broches and displays of many artefacts found in and around them. The centre tells the story of broch in North East Scotland. The museum shows what brochs were, how they were built and how the broch builders lived.

This is beautiful white sandy beach and amazing views of the surrounding hills. Clear blue water. A good spot for wildlife watching. 

A beautiful and stunning beach. Lovely views and very clean. Great sand dunes for the adventurous. The beach is long and spacious, making it great for long walks. 

This bay is sand and rock beach. Nice wide and long beach with fine sand and lots of stones along the wall. It is most popular beach in this area. Perfect for sandcastles and dog walkers. 

Beautiful setting. Unfortunately, it's closed off and locked up, so you can't go inside. It's a short walk along the shoreline and then a quick viewing from a distance. The old ruins are on the shore-front.  But very beautiful view and scenery. The castle ruins views with sideways views of the sea are nice. The castle was built possibly on the site of an earlier fort in the late 16th or early 17th century. 

The beach is beautiful, big and sandy. Great for quality family time, with plenty of room for the kids to run around. Low water levels.

This is a beautifully decorated cathedral that has been well-preserved. Best time to visit is during the Cathedral Arts Festival or culture night. Both are great experiences that go beyond the religious architecture. Rich history with modern management, makes this one of the best tourist attractions. If you enjoy history and amazing architecture, it's definitely worth a visit. 

Very clean and lovely sandy beach. Adjacent to the beach is a beautiful nine-hole golf course with a clubhouse that includes a cafe which is open to the public. There is parking which is free, and it has very easy access. Lots of seashells, light golden coloured sand and a clean sea, plus spectacular views.

A science museum that is a great educational experience for the kids. Many different areas to explore with lots of different interactive aspects too. Brilliant fun, with so much to keep children entertained and busy.

An excellent National Trust beach and sand dunes, with mountains on one side and colourful vegetation on the other. Great sights to enjoy.

An iconic landmark to the history of the U.K, mostly converted to a museum detailing the military achievements of Scotland and England. Most likely full of tourists year-round.

The castle was vacated in the 17th century following 300 years of habitation. Great ruin to have a look around. The adjacent beach is gorgeous. Very pretty with lots of old Scottish royalty history and how they lived. Great place to stop and park up, for a lovely walk to the castle and the lighthouse. The ruin is well maintained as an attraction with plenty of informative signage about the history and construction of the castle. There is no charge.
