This is an iconic attraction and a great, family-friendly day out. Built in 1875, it was a successful boat lift in the beginning, designed to bridge the 50 foot gap between the River and the canal. An engineering masterpiece, not only does it still do the job it was designed to do, but it does so with the most ingenious and endearing character of any structure on the canal system today.
