The castle itself stands as a sophisticated and impressive example of a late 1500s tower house. The castle was infamous for notorious oppression for this area. The noblemen rule was a popular one. He was arrested in 1609 and executed along with his son Robert in Edinburgh in 1615.
There is no charge for entering the castle and there is a good display board giving a lot of historical information about the family.
