The castle was vacated in the 17th century following 300 years of habitation. Great ruin to have a look around. The adjacent beach is gorgeous. Very pretty with lots of old Scottish royalty history and how they lived. Great place to stop and park up, for a lovely walk to the castle and the lighthouse. The ruin is well maintained as an attraction with plenty of informative signage about the history and construction of the castle. There is no charge.
